The Senate Committee considering the nomination of Daniel Pipes to the board of an obscure group, the United States Institute for Peace, broke up for failure to achieve a quorum on Wednesday. At the hearing five Senators voiced objection to the nomination, and four of them , all Democrats (I include Jim Jeffords in this category), indicated that if a vote were held, they would have voted no. The less than noble four include Ted Kennedy, Tom Harkin and Chris Dodd, in addition to Jeffords, the modern day Benedict Arnold, or as Nathan Hale might have said about him: "I regret that I have but one political party to give for my dairy compact". Republican Judd Gregg also seemed to indicate a lack of enthusiasm for Pipes' nomination. Only one Senator- Republican John Ensign, indicated he supported the nominee, though his endorsement was pretty tepid too. .... The various groups that have been established to promote a pro-Islam, and pro-Arab agenda, treated the Pipes nomination as a very important issue. Most of these groups are Saudi wahhabi funded, and this is whose agenda they promote, much as they like to argue they are civil rights groups, or groups existing to defend Arabs and Muslims against discrimination. Pipes, along with Steve Emerson, has been a harsh critic of these groups-identifying their members with ties to terror activities, describing their public statements, such as defending suicide bombings by Palestinians, and exposing their funding. He has called for moderate Muslims to distance themselves from these groups and their anti-western, anti-American, anti-Israel, and anti-Jewish agenda. Whatever the insignificance of the Institute to which Pipes had been nominated, this was payback time for his enemies. At the hearing every major Arab or Muslim group was represented in the hearing room. No Jewish group saw the need to have any member attend the hearing. The Senators saw who cared about this nomination. .... Kennedy, and Dodd and Harkin all accepted the smears about Pipes as a Muslim hater, And they also played to the Muslim community. Harkin, spoke lovingly of the first mosque in America in Cedar Rapids. What exactly dos that have to do with this nomination? Kennedy and Dodd both spoke about the troubling comments by Pipes painting Muslims with a broad brush. In fact of course, Pipes has been quite careful to distinguish between the radical Muslims and the others. But he has also broadcast the troubling fact that the radical faction is a growing and sizable part of the total Muslim community. And this he argues is attributable to the bushels of Saudi money funneling through these groups to promote their agenda, and their effort to create a Muslim population in America enraged at their own country. Remember that Steve Emerson was blacklisted from NPR for years because of a similar smear campaign that he was anti-Muslim. Now the new McCarthyism has carried over to Pipes. This is very dangerous. Not only do the Arabists control all the Middle East studies programs in academia, and get to speak directly through NPR, and Peter Jennings and CNN, but they are now associating critics of the Saudis or of elements within Islam as racist. Because Pipes has dared to speak the truth, the Muslim groups have created a climate where his criticism is to be discredited by his racism. . The Muslims are clothing themselves in the mantle of civil rights. Pipes is Bull Conner. The Arabs are the new Negroes of the 1950s. And here there is a political split in the offing. For the Democrats who loathe Bush, and Ashcroft, the protection of "innocent" Muslims has become a big issue, a chance to defend civil liberties .
Now he is reporting that Richard Pipes' nomination to he United States INstitute for Peace is likely to be sacrificed to Muslim pressure. He needs our help! Hold your nose and contact Ted Kennedy, Tom Harkin, Chriss Dodd and Jim Jeffords
Not only do the Arabists control all the Middle East studies programs in academia, and get to speak directly through NPR, and Peter Jennings and CNN, but they are now associating critics of the Saudis or of elements within Islam as racist. You know, your head could spin right off trying to keep track on these boards. One day the evil left and Peter Jennings are marching lockstep to the evil zionists and the next day they are unquestioning blind supporters of the Arab cause. Will this Arabist trip last for a couple of days or will it revert back to Zionist tomorrow? Just checking.
Piranha: Never in my life have I ever read a suggestion that Peter Jennings (Hanan Ashrawi's ex-boyfriend)ever has marched in lockstep with the Zionists. Do you have even a single source for this comment? The next time I see one, I'll make sure and send you a headsup. As more than one person on these boards have noted, very very few of us even have a clue as to what the argument is in mideast from both sides. Most of it is lost in the crossfire of "Jewboys!" or "Ragheads!" The whole region all becomes a canvas for us to paint our own assumptions and prejudices. It is refreshing when someone actually shows evidence of having read or experienced something about the mideast outside of their own assumptions and prejudices. A refreshment that sadly comes too seldom. --Raoul
I'm sure you, like most of us, would love to see an independent and free Jewish state called Israel (it's pre-1947 configuration) living side by side in peace with an independent and free Palestinian state called Palestine.
And the Philistines (Palestinians) are the new American Indians of the 1800's The Israelis the evil "whiteeyed" settlers...and the USA the BlueCoats

CAIR the other Wahhabi Lobby groups manage an uninteruptible pipeline of cash flowing from the automobiles, trucks, ships, aircraft of American consumers right into the pockets of US politicans and influence peddlers...
They continue to build mosques and Islamic training centers accross our nation..and even a camp thanks the the US Army Corps of Engineers in northern Iowa- They demonstrate their power in Americas heartland...this camp is another object lesson...much like our inability to connect them to the events of 9-11 or to do much of anything about it... imo

Sadly, I think we are about to get yet another reality check about the true nature of 'our' Senators.
Now he rants about Dan Pipes. Absurd. I'll get busy making calls and sending emails on behalf of Mr. Pipes.
Stunned silence, then CLICK!
