July 23 — Microsoft issued another passel of warnings about security holes Wednesday, including a “critical” flaw affecting most Windows PCs. The most serious of the flaws involves DirectX, a library of graphics and multimedia programming instructions used by most PC games, and could allow malicious users to run code of their choice on a vulnerable PC.

This type of thing is exactly why I refuse to enable those functions on my 'puter. I can't see how a 10MB operating system can possibly be freed from bugs which might allow unintended access. When you allow an outside programmer to do things with your machine, you run major risks. Maybe someday these problems can be assured to be fixed, but I believe that day is a long time from here and now.

It runs arbitrary code on your machine - not substantially different than the way Windows normally works. :-)

Not me. Every time I have downloaded MS updates....my puter gets VERY very sick. I'll pass (as recommended by the last tech I spoke to at Compaq).
