[history]
July 23, 2003 -- A horse is a horse of course, of course, but the feisty little red bay star of "Seabiscuit" was something else altogether - and it took a stable of ponies to portray him.
Eight different Thoroughbreds were required to bring to the screen the many moods and behaviors of the knock-kneed upstart who defied the odds to become an inspirational hero to Depression-era America.

Hendrickson was responsible for casting the four-legged actors - one was picked for his tendency to rear and buck, for example, while another was chosen for his lethargy. LOL. That's just like being on FR. Some of us rear and buck, while others lurk and hardly post. And that verse in the Bible about being many parts but one body.

Sounds like a nice movie. I'm not much of a Tobey McGuire fan, but the horses sound sweet.

I just finished the book and it's terrific. I can't imagine the movie will be half as good but I'm planning on seeing it. By the way, the author is female and bears a resemblance to Ann Coulter.

I thought Tobey did a fine job in Spiderman.

. . . says Hendrickson, a 49-year-old Montana rancher No relation.
No "d" here.
BTW, we saw the recent PBS documentary on Seabiscuit, my wife is reading the book, and the whole fam--including our 7-year-old daughter, who is horse-crazy--is looking forward to the movie.

If you were in Saratoga Springs, NY with $185 for a ticket, you could already be enjoying that movie. It opened at the National Museum of Thoroughbred Racing.

I can wait for the regular premier at my local theatre! ;^)

To: HairOfTheDog
Fascinating, and very readable. I got through another chapter before I fell asleep last night.

You see the post above, that talks about a special on Seabiscuit coming up on TCM?
To: kattracks
A&E will have a documentary on Seabiscuit on sometime this week (I think Saturday). I saw it a few months ago and it was pretty good.

Just got back from "Seabiscuit"....what a movie! I wasn't prepared for such an "epic" production. The audience was on the edge of it's seats, cheering and crying. It was wonderful! You're gonna love it.

I read a review (not that means anything), that wasn't so hot on it. It said it was predictable, feel good, but it didn't really convey what the book did, which was just how big Sea biscuit was during that time. It was more the analogy of the American way, blah, blah, blah...NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT! By the way, just a little embarrassing tidbit. 20 years ago I dated a guy who, everytime somebody asked him what tip he should leave, he'd say "SEABISCUIT IN THE FIFTH." Up until recently, I had no idea what that meant!!!!!!

Micheal Medved did a review on it today but I was out of my truck and missed it. We drove by Seabiscuits retirement home yesterday on Hiway 101 near Willits Ca. The town is abuzz over the movie...
