WEST MILFORD - A leader of the Million Mom March is coming to town Thursday to speak to parents about the consequences of keeping a gun at home.
Joyce Sooy, joyces3@excelonline.com president of the Bergen/Passaic chapter of the Million Mom March, will speak on the topic, "Can We Prevent Gun Violence?" at 7:30 p.m. Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church on Union Valley Road.
Sooy led a bus caravan from Bergen County on Mother's Day in 2000 to attend the Million Mom March in Washington, D.C. Thousands of mothers around the nation gathered to call on lawmakers to enact stricter gun laws.
The discussion is co-sponsored by the church and http://www.highlandspeaceaction.org/ Highlands Peace Action, a group of citizens who support grass-roots efforts toward peace.

Joyce Sooy of Emerson was among those taking part in the anti-gun gathering. She said gun control has been an important issue to her ever since her adult son, Eric, killed himself with his brother-in-law's gun while suffering from depression 10 years ago. She said gun control is an important step toward preventing suicide.

God Bless!
btw...I know that its hard to fathom what a person does what they do. I also know you can't blame the survivors for not failing to act.
A few of my students over the years have also committed suicide.
The best you can do is offer support, and help the survivors in anyway that you can.
The "Catholic Church" does not have a 'position' on gun ownership. There may be many individuals who are against guns, like the woman mentioned in the post, who had a personal position, and happened to be speaking at a Catholic Parish under the auspices of it's 'Peace and Love' group.
There are many other Catholics who DO own guns and who would be opposed to what this woman said. She and they have the right to express their own opinions. I have NEVER heard a sermon having anything to do with the individual ownership of guns.
And who exactly do you think is going to move the Catholic Church out of this country? Anytime you feel ready to start deporting Catholics you can start with me bubba. I promise and guaran-damn-tee you'll change your little mind in hurry!!!
Anyone notice the part in bold? Does kind of reveal her real agenda. Stupid bitch. Apparently the death of her son was not enough for her, now she wants to bring death to the rest of us by rendering us defenseless. Some people are just purveyors of deaths. Too bad her son didn't take her with him.
