"I knew our enemies were using OUR press. We still haven't seen an investigation - on Capitol Hill or in the press - as to which reporters were (are?) on Saddam's payroll. We can't count on 'em to inform the people. That's a fact."
There are members of Congress who seem to be Saddam's biggest cheerleaders, and one of my state's senators is right up there with them. (Yeah, I'm talking about YOU, dip-Dick Durbin of Illinois!)

To understand the BBC, you have to understand its closed shop union, the trotskyite
National Union of Journalists.
Note that the NUJ essentially demands government censorship and prior restraint, via the Press Complaints Commission, against editors and publications who do not conform to NUJ's politically tailored code of practice:[NUJ recommends] that the PCC should take a more proactive role. This could allow it to deal with major news issues and complaints by third parties, dealing for instance [with} racism in the press, something it has failed to do. ....that compensation be paid in some circumstances and that adjudications be published with front-page teasers; also that a league table of offenders be published.
The NUJ's efforts to assure journalistic safety and freedom are remarkably selective and almost embarrassingly agenda-driven. One would think from reading their complaints that only the United States and Israel, represent a serious threat to freedom of the press.
NUJ organizers and officials are the driving force behind Media Workers Against War. The membership lists include a large number of prominent BBC personalities and most of the staff from Al Guardian and Al Independent. These propagandists are insulting our intelligence; and promulgating a Big Lie that would shame their predecessor, Joseph Goebbels; when they and their disciples claim to be objective, fair, and free of bias. They are probably right about not having a hidden agenda, since their agenda could not be more public or obvious.

Thanks, Ragtime, for your continued efforts to make sure the truth gets out instead of just the media's attempt to negate all the wonderful things our troops are accomplishing.

Thank you so much for sharing your son's letter - and for raising him up right. Would you mind my adding his letter to the other comments from family members and the troops (minus names, of course)?
The press does not speak for the American people any more than it fairly represents the troops. Most Americans never expected Iraq to be stabilized by now. We know the troops first marched to Baghdad a short four months ago. We are behind the troops AND their efforts in Iraq. The 24/7 news cycle, tabloid news habits are NOT helpful during wartime.
Let your son know there are people back home finding and sharing the news. More Americans (and our allies) are learning every day.

Feel free to add his letter. He would be proud of that. We always let him know that there is more support from the American people than the national media lets on there is.

Thank you for that very important post. We're discovering the "why" "how" and "who" - now "what to do about it"? For now, bypassing the press is the only option I know - word of mouth and grassroots efforts.
Our elected officials depend too much on this powerful press, know the power of the smear campaign to destroy careers and lives.
At least we don't have to meet secretly in a basement running off handbills on the printing press.

Ack. Sen. Bob Graham's mine. The traitor's calling for impeachment. I know longer call his office. The left-wing activist groups are aligned with international socialist nations and groups and against America.
For a refresher, your Senators - every American elected official - swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States - not the UN charter or the EU Constitution (if they every get it written) from enemies both foreign and domestic.

Thank you, Kathy. You certainly understand that we need to keep up the morale of the troops - especially in wartime doing the difficult, important work our troops are doing daily. How many days in a row now have you guys posted and kept the FR 'USO' Canteen open, lively and welcoming for the troops? The Canteen crew rocks!
I'm sitting in an airconditioned room, near loved ones, with a ham and cheese sandwich, fresh fruit and ice tea (beer later) - listening to music and working with some of the best people on the planet - from the great state of Florida, in the greatest country on earth.
Is it so easy to defend our troops on the homefront by finding and getting news out to others using the net. We have to. The press isn't.

Thank you, ladtx. Done.
E-mailing the letter and comments to Sean Hannity, Hugh Hewitt, Rush, Col. North, Ann Coulter, and many others. Will repeat - and recruit helpers - 'til they hear.

"You might want to forward this to a few members of the (inter)national media."
You bet! Your wonderful page has gotten its own folder. Thanks for the easy access!
Ralph Reed on 'Hardball' last night was the only ray of light on MSNBC. He managed to complete his statements with Matthews talking over him. Oberman's show found people to speak negatively about the war in Iraq and the administration. This is in Private Jessica Lynch's home town where they're preparing a hero's welcome!
Davis Asman,Fox, has just said, "There's been so much lousy news, maybe it's because of the press", in reference to Iraq when talking about the breaking news that Uday and Qusay have likely been KILLED in Mosul. He knows, since he has a Marine son in Iraq. Hope the breaking news is correct!

About as verifiable as anything the mass media puts out.
YOU try to backtrace a story and verify it, especially the BBC reportage in question.

You got that right.
I was downtown every weekend and in front of the Reps offices in the evenings with a lot of other people.
