House Democrats Storm Out of Ways and Means Committee ("you little fruitcake")

By any standards, today represented a low point in the history of congressional comity. Democrats accused the GOP of running a police state; Republicans recounted how one Democratic member of the panel called a Republican colleague "you little fruitcake" in the midst of the standoff.
The blowup occurred as the panel began to mark up a wide-ranging pension bill sponsored by Reps. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Benjamin L. Cardin (D-Md.). The changes narrowed the original bill, but retained most of its key provisions.

...or maybe backing into a Greek restaraunt.
I saw a little bit of the fiasco yesterday before the electircity went out here in town due to a small grass fire and a power line down.
Let me just say that those who have Pete stark as their "representative" in Congress should be totally embarrssed. This man is nothing but a no good S.O.B. and an a**hole.
It's obvious the Demorats do not know how to be very good sports about what the voters wanted. To those in Colorado who have Scott McInnis as their repsentative, you should be very proud of him and the way he handled this whole ordeal.
I can tell you if it was me, I'd have gone over and punched Pete Stark in the mouth and knocked his teeth out.
Finally, we're beginning to see some guts come out of the Republicans. That's a good thing to see.
Regards.

Our NY media showing nothing but Rangel's and Lewis's comments. No full story at all, just allowing the dem spin to prevail.
Can I presume that the republicans did the right thing and the vote prevailed and the dems LOST?

"You know, you have a very rye sense of humor... He must have been bread to be that way."
At least, he rises to the occasion even tho some of his remarks are stale.

Jim McCrery is a 'little fruitcake' too??

From a Fox News report this morning (broadcast 7:39am EST, my own verified transcript):
Fox reporter babe: "An argument on the House floor got so heated that security had to break it up. It started when some Democrats walked out over changes to a pension bill. Then Democrat Pete Stark got personal with Republican Scott McGinnis. No cameras saw that squabble but the committee reporter captured the essence of it. Let's listen:"
Committee reporter reads his transcript: "Oh, you think you are big enough to make me, you little wimp? Come on. Come over here and make me. I dare you. You little fruitcake, you little fruitcake. I said you are a fruitcake."
Fox reporter babe: "Sorry. Police decided that lawmakers had to resolve their own problems. In the end, the bill was sent back to committee for yet another hearing."

Look at #110. Turns out it was Scott McGinnis. I knew I had heard a Mc name on the radio news, looked, turned out Jim McCrery was the only Republican listed in my Almanac of American Politics on House Ways & Means, so I assumed it had to be him. But Scott McGinnis is not in the Almanac. Hence my mistake.

He isn't a heel about it either...

That second picture should be posted often especially as Her Heinous will be running for Prez in 2004. See Wes Pruden's column from yesterday.

You're absolutely right. With the republican majority in the country plus Ann Coulter's exposure of what the democractic party is about and has become, we need to slamdunk democrats as much as possible. We have decades of marxist legislation to fix. We can't worry about these classic temper tantrums the dems have, especially when they are out of power.

Keep track of C-SPAN. They were re-airing it, and they may do so again this weekend.

Thanks for that link. I had heard rumors about that incident, but hadn't heard the full details.
