Poor Joe Lieberman. Ever since he burst on the national scene three years ago as Al Gore's vice presidential running mate, he's been repeatedly called on the carpet by blacks. Thursday, he apologized to the NAACP for missing the group's candidate forum earlier this week in Miami. He has nothing to feel sorry for. The NAACP and black Democrats have long slammed him for his support of state-funded school vouchers allowing parents to move children from public to private schools and for his 1998 support for California's Proposition 209, which banned state-funded affirmative action programs. These are the two litmus-test issues for civil rights leaders. Never mind that polls show that a significant percentage of younger blacks back school vouchers. They are the ones who are most likely to have their children in failing inner-city public schools (unlike well-heeled black Dems and civil rights leaders)...

Lieberman can never win with Blacks because he is a Jew. There is much prejudice against Jews in Black America. The Blacks forget it was mostly Jews that joined them in the early civil rights movement. One of the three boys killed in the deep south was a white Jewish boy.

That prejudice you speak of has been conjured up by the Nation of Islam AND the Democratic Party; with their love of 'diversity', they continuously pit one racial/gender/religious group against another. Those of us who know better realize the Jews are God's chosen people, and very much support the protection of Israel agaist Palastinean attacks. As I surely do. That's also one of the major reasons I no longer vote Democrat, and haven't for nearly twenty years. The point is he will not get the nomination for this reason.He would actually do better in a general election or open primary. Swing voters and Republicans are not as caught up in this hate for the Jews. If he rediscoverd his religous principles he would be acceptable to a number of evangelicals.
