A spokesman for the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles criticized NAACP chairman Julian Bond on Thursday, saying he used "over-the-top" rhetoric to smear Republicans during a speech last weekend at the civil rights group's 94th annual convention.
Reacting to Bond's allegation that "[the Republican Party's] idea of equal rights is the American flag and Confederate swastika flying side by side," Center spokesman Rabbi Abraham Cooper told NewsMax.com, "The mixing of two images, 'Confederate swastika,' I think it's over-the-top rhetoric and a disservice to the memory of the victims of slavery as well as to the victims of the Nazis."
"Both [slavery and the Holocaust] were horrific enough in their own right," explained Cooper, who serves as the associate dean of the Center. "One could make their point without abusing the symbols of two of the most horrific chapters in the history of humanity."
"It didn't belong in that speech," the Simon Wiesenthal Center spokesman added.
In his address, Bond also compared conservatives to the Ku Klux Klan, offering the admonition, "The average KKK member may be stupid, but the well-financed forces of the radical right are not."

"The mixing of two images, 'Confederate swastika,' I think it's over-the-top rhetoric and a disservice to the memory of the victims of slavery as well as to the victims of the Nazis." So I guess it's OK to compare Republicans to confederates of Nazis, just not both at the same time.

Uh...excuse me, Julian, but the Ku Klux Klan was overwhelmingly Democrat.

I concur with you. It's such a weak and watery condemnation, I'm wondering why they bothered. Democrats all.

Of course, but he'd probably be the first to tell you that the likes of Sen. Robert "KKK" Byrd have 'evolved' or some such nonsense.
...Bond is a poor excuse for a leader, and the NAALCP is a poor excuse for a civil rights organization.
...By the way, I like your tagline-it's hilarious.

The only former Ku Klux Klan member in federal government is Senator Byrd - a lifelong Democrat. Bond's comments are hate speech - plain and simple.
In his address, Bond also compared conservatives to the Ku Klux Klan, offering the admonition, "The average KKK member may be stupid, but the well-financed forces of the radical right are not."

So I guess it's OK to compare Republicans to confederates of Nazis, just not both at the same time.Actually it almost reads like they're condemning Bond for coming down too hard on Nazis and Confederates, by comparing them to Republicans.

Bond shows himself to be astonishingly ignorant. (Or perhaps on drugs?)
When I heard him speak at Kent State in the mid-70s I was impressed. Now . . .

There is no consequence today when liberals fan the flames of racial hatred the way Julian Bond does. At some point, the stigma that we apply to the racist must be similarly applied to the race-baiter.

"Racist" is a word invented for the use of such racists as [Not-very] grand-wizard Bond as a propaganda weapon that permits folks like him to distract attention from themselves and from other race terrorists and race pimps who, like Bond, are joined with many of America's enemies and who conduct the continual psychopathological revolutionary attacks on white folks that are but a part of a grander and far more ambitious scheme. That of destroying Our Beloved FRaternal Republic and the Judeo/Christian/Western Civilization Our Nation has long Vanguarded -- and must ever Guard.
[Not very] grand-wizard Bond is the racist enemy of every American and of every FRee or aspiring to be FRee Man on this planet!
To Hell with him and to Hell with all of his ilk!
