White women just aren't upset enough, by potential profiling of terrorists by airport security, to satisfy Bryant Gumbel. In the premiere of his new PBS show on Tuesday night, Flashpoints USA, Gumbel went over to a crowd of people at the airport near Detroit and asked them their feelings about profiling at airports. When a 5'9" blonde said she agreed with it, Gumbel wondered: "Would you agree with it if they were singling out 5'9" blondes?" And when a second woman backed the policy, Gumbel became incensed: "Again, no outrage."
He finally got to a black woman who agreed with him.
The premiere of Flashpoints USA dealt with profiling and security at airports with a series of taped pieces narrated by Gwen Ifill and interviews conducted by Gumbel taped at Detroit's airport, all interspersed with the results of poll questions.
To end the taped and edited program, Gumbel went over to a crowd watching the taping. Here's how it went as Gumbel held out a microphone:
Blonde white woman: "I tend to agree with it. Unfortunately a lot of our, some of our, unfriendly people come from foreign soil so I think that we have to, since 9-11, be a little bit more careful and so."
Gumbel: "I mean no accusation by this, would you agree with it if they were singling out 5'9" blondes?"
Woman, taken aback: "Well no, of course not. I have nothing to hide. I have nothing to hide but, you know, from everything we learned we have to be a little bit more careful and unfortunately, you know, that means sometimes singling out people that could be a threat."
Gumbel to another white woman: "Fair enough. What about you, what do you think about it?"
Second woman: "I think in light of 9-11 that we can't, that we need to do that. I think we need to have profiling. I think that our security's a lot more beefed up now, but I think it's time for Americans to wake up and be a little bit more cautious. A lot of the things in light of what 9-11 plus all of the things that have happened over the last few years and I know that they're angry with us and I think we need to do something about it."
Gumbel: "Interesting. Again, no outrage."
Gumbel to a black woman: "What about you?"
Black woman: "Little different story for me. I don't mind the profiling if it's last-minute purchase with cash or not checking any bags and having a one-way ticket or something like that."
Gumbel: "In other words, if there's some grounds for it besides their ethnicity or their race or their religion?"
Woman: "Absolutely and for me I'll go through the process because it's something I've been going through all my life about profiling, so it's not more of an intrusion it's just how things are in America."

If I was one of the women, I would have asked Gumball if he objected to law enforcement profiling white men if a cross is burned on a black family's lawn.

I would have said "Sure, I would have no problem with them profiling 5'-9" blondes if the WTC terrorists had been 5'-9" blondes." DUH!

Gumball is a real looney toon. He ranks up there with Michael Moore and Alec Baldwin.

Well, Icould say something about Bryant and satisfying women, but that would be stooping to his level

Geez, I didn't know Gumbel was even still alive. Didn't he retire some years back? Or, was he one of those guys who promised to leave the country if Ronald Reagan was elected president, and did?

He has bounced from show to show, tanking each show's ratings in the process. Yet, he says all the right things in order to keep getting hired.

Bryant does a little profiling himself:

Bryant, Baba and Byrant's approx. 5'9" blonde girlfriend.
As far as black women. Didn't he dump his first wife, June? And wasn't she black? I can't find a picture of her.

As a blonde myself, I would have told him I'd have no problem with them singling out blondes if it were blonde women who flew planes in to the WTC.

What does Balless fly? Private?
I've been searched twice. My bro who is 6'2" Nordic looking as they come gets searched every time he goes through LAX.
It's gotten to the point where I wonder if they just like frisking blondes?

There is rarely ever the right person with the right response in these situtaions with a good come back.

That's one of those responses that, unfortunately, you think about saying after a reporter asks you a question like that like.
Does the "no profiling" ideal stretch over to the SUV? They're killers I tell you.

Oh Paul, I wish Bryant would have interviewed you! I would give a couple of Hillary's millions to see his face if you said that to him!

Re #15.
There is always at least one with the right reply.
The problem is, they always get edited out if the right reply isnt the slant the story needs.
