Groups threatening recall of Nevada Supreme Court justices

A recall effort could be launched as early as today against one or more Nevada Supreme Court justices.

No official notice has been filed. But Nevadans for Tax Restraint says there'll be a rally to highlight the issue at 4:30 Thursday afternoon at the Grant Sawyer state building in Las Vegas.

Conservative groups including the Nevada Eagle Forum and the Republican Liberty Caucus say Chief Justice Deborah Agosti and five other justices were wrong to set aside a constitutional provision that state tax increases pass by a two-thirds vote of the Legislature.

Leaders of the effort say they intend to announce this morning in Las Vegas when they'll start collecting the thousands of signatures they'd need to put a recall measure before voters.

But if they're recalled, won't their replacements be chosen by the SAME GOVERNOR who asked them to raise taxes in the first place? SHOULDN'T THE GOVERNOR BE RECALLED TOO?

No, both routes should be used. The courts can't be allowed to override the constitution - - and when state courts do it, a federal court ought to be able to protect citizens from such abuse.

They'll probably just rule against the recall and refuse to leave their seats. If I ever heard a good reason to start "voting from the rooftops", the Nevada Supreme Court is it.

US Constitution guarantees the right to a republican (small "r") form of government. The SCoNev, by ruling as they did, has violated this basic federal right.

Equal protection rights under the 14th Amendment have also been violated.

That doesn't give state courts power to strip people of their rights. State courts couldn't order your home confiscated and given to some big political contributor. It that happened, you could appeal to the federal courts for protection and relief.

They're elected every six years, but the governor appoints replacements in the event that a judge leaves before his/her term ends.

Talking to folks around town, I think a recall petition could have enough signatures in 2, maybe 3 hours after it hits the streets.

The tyrants in black could not do better lately if they were TRYING to convince the American people that we live in a de facto judicial republic (or in some cases tyranny) rather than a constitutional republic. They act as if they have found some divine right of rule for judges.

It is high time we start holding them accountable and restore balance to our republic at all levels of government. God bless this effort.
