The developers of the Bowlingual dog translator device have continued their quest to bridge an understanding between different species with the introduction of Meowlingual, which they claim translates cat cries into human language.
Cat lovers can use Meowlingual as if it was an interviewer's mike to automatically interpret what their beloved pets are saying, according to officials of Takara Co.
The gadget, priced at 8,800 yen per unit, will hit Japanese markets in November. About 300,000 Bowlinguals have been sold in Japan since its launch last year.
It went on sale in South Korea in late May and will be made available in the United States in August.
The dog translator was awarded the 2002 Ig Nobel Peace Prize for promoting harmony between the species by the US humor magazine Annals of Improbable Research. (

There was something about the term "Bowlingual" that reminded me of a gay sex act.

Hmmmm. Well, I already know, "Feed me!" and "Stop whatever you're doing and lift me up on the bed because I'm too lazy to get up there myself!"

I speak with my cat all the time. Here are her key phrases:
1. "Feed me, human!"
2. "Cut that out, you baka!"
3. "Scratch me!"
4. "I didn't say you could stop!"
5. "Don't touch me!"
6. "I wanna go out!"
7. "Hey, get this dog offa me!"
8. "Leave me alone!"

The only thing my dog says is "BARK!", which translated means, "Give me more biscuits."

I know "feed me", "wake up and feed me", "turn on the faucet so I can get a drink", "you've been in the shower too long and I'm scared", "can I have a bite of your lunch?", "WHY can't I have a bite of your lunch?", "the litter box is too dirty to even consider visiting", "you spend too much time on the computer, no I'm *not* getting off the keyboard", and "I have a hairball you're not going to believe, hold on a sec..."
My kitties are very vocal.

If you're relying on just the meow for information, you'll miss a lot of the message.
Cats, among themselves and with humans, have a very sophisticated group of comments and commands that are transmitted by their facial expressions, too.

I don't know that I'd always *want *to know what the kids' cat is saying.
Sometimes she throws around looks which are downright nasty enough.

I pretty much know everything the smarter of my two cats (a golden siamese) is communicating as he meows all the time. The other one makes a box of rocks look like a PhD candidate. I'll pay for a translator of her speech and she frequently meows at the wall.

My Siamese cat, Jade, says:
" Ouuuut, NOW!"
She is a very strange cat. Loves beer, but won't drink the "light" stuff. AND she can tell by looking at a can if it is beer or soda that you have. She will not, for instance, go for a can of 7-Up.
Of course, we only let her sip beer a little.
don't want to have to get her into a 12 Step program! LOL!
A properly loved siamese is a very sweet thing, BTW.... most of the horror stories about Siamese are because either the cat was in-bred, or the owners were insensitive clods.....

My alpha male cat says "wacka wacka" when he's happy, and screams--literally--when I'm taking him to the vet.
To: The Hon. Galahad Threepwood
REALLY! What do they expect they would have to say besides what you stated in your post??

Well you did forget, 'It's time to play with Mr. Ball, I don't care where you are in the house or what time it is, I'm going to stand right here and meow at the top of my lungs until you come play ball with me' anywhere between 9:30 PM and 3:30 AM
