I've noted before that in the US, the word "buncombe" (last name of this author) means outrageous political balderdash. If the shoe fits ....
Meanwhile, there is a rumor that the UK Independent is under pressure to make their newspaper softer, more absorbant, and two-ply, so it can serve its only worthwhile purpose -- to whip people's bums when they're in the loo. I deeply pity any Brits who receive this birdcage liner under the delusion that it is a newspaper.

The word "bunkum" is a corrupted form of the original word "Buncombe" which is the largest county in the 11th District of North Carolina. It got its meaning from a Congressman from this District who was legendary for his twaddle in the House that was a total waste of time.

Mr Cheney made a "multiple number" of personal visits to its headquarters in Virginia to meet officials analysing intelligence relating to Iraq. "[He] sent signals, intended or otherwise, that a certain output was desired from here," one senior CIA official told reporters.
Hmmmmmmm....I wonder WHo the senior CIA OFFICIAL that told reporters this?????? Mrs. Wilson????Mr. Tenet??? Some OTHER TRAITOR???

Yeah, I'd like to see what evidence they think they have! This is a joke! I dreaded this campaign season like a disease. I know politics can be stinky sometimes; but this is absolutely hateful! This is pure slander.
I can't believe that this is what the Dem. party has fallen to. They're so afraid of their endless activist groups, and the higher-ups, that they are like scared children. Either or that, they've been brainwashed! This scares me sick; to think that there are so many people in the opposition that are like this.
At this point; I wouldn't have these candidates for president on that side, on a paper plate! Sooner or later, they're going to have to actually get into the Gen. election season. And their going to have to get off their high-horses, and face the moderate and conservative people in their own party, and those that are independent.
I'd like to see how they behave to them! After all the nastiness and lies they are spewing out about the President; they're going to have a time trying to explain their behavior!
Some of these people will be so fed-up; they won't have them on a paper plate either! But I guess they don't care what they think! They've been so busy drooling over the Clintons' and McCauliff's shoes, and worshiping at the shrines of their interest groups, that they can be of any interest to more reasonable people in any party!
I saw a neighbor tonight at the store. This man is one of the nicest, friendliest, family-man type of person. And yes, he's a Democrat! I wish their were more of his type. I know there are a good many decent Dem. people in Washington, and all over that are like him. But they don't get into the higher-up positions in that party anymore!
This man has been a Utah office-holder before. And his family were neighbors of ours for many years. For every Bill Clinton, Hillary, Tom D., Carl Levin, etc.., there should be 10 of this man!

To All:
In my circle, this "issue" only has traction with those individuals who would despise President Bush even if he gave them Bill Gates' fortune. It remains a "news" item because of the DNC's lapdog BIASED media.
All true patriots must continue to pray for President Bush and focus on real issues!
This morning when my DNC fundraiser-attending supervisor suggested that the demonrats (oops - that's my interpretation) should pursue the President's making a false case for war, I simply countered that I was surprised to see all the interest in allegations that the President lied. No one even raised an eyebrow the eight years prior to Bush II when the previous president rarely managed to tell the truth. Furthermore, I reminded him that Bush relies totally upon the intelligence community for the information. Also, I noted that the CIA chief, Tenet, is an x42 appointee, and that he and other bureaucrats are not particularly loyal to Bush. My supervisor is fairly objective for a lifelong liberal, and he did not offer any response to my arguments.
Very few Americans will deny that the previous president is an absolute liar. Objective individuals know that President Bush has shown no real propensity to lie, and Evangelical Christians see him as a true believer in Christ, THE TRUTH. Allegations that he knowingly misled America simply do not square with President Bush's CHARACTER. (Remember how Carville told America that "character doesn't count"?) Furthermore, when the incorrect statement was made, President Bush was methodically laying out his case for war under the intense scrutiny of the entire world. I seriously doubt that he would cite any information he deemed unreliable. Even the previous president who will lie when the truth would benefit him more would not knowingly present false information under such pressure - - - on second thought, x42 still lied in that type of situation <--- my bad!

We need nothing more than an ad showing the statements of the democrats before they lost their minds over yellow cake.
No commentary necessary, just the statement, the name and date.

Leftists write "open letters" all the time.
The surprise is seeing one referred to as a source by the New York Times. Yes, I'm still surprised.
It would be delicious if most of the signers turned out never to have been "VIPs" at all. Wouldn't it?

The letter, signed by 11 MPs of all parties, called on Mr Straw to confirm The Independent's report that technical documents and centrifuge parts found at the home of an Iraqi nuclear scientist in Baghdad had lain buried for 12 years. The letter also asked Mr Straw to reveal when he knew that the former US ambassador Joseph Wilson had found claims about Niger-Iraq links to be false. What? That centrifuge was 12 years old?!
