Clintons Lose Whitewater Appeal By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Filed at 10:49 a.m. ET
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The federal government does not have to pay for the bulk of former president Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton's legal fees arising out of the Whitewater independent counsel investigation, an appeals court ruled Tuesday.
The Clintons had sought reimbursement for more than $3.5 million in lawyer costs stemming from the long-running probe of the failed Arkansas land deal.
But a federal appeals panel issued a 14-page decision ruling the Clintons would have been investigated with or without the appointment of an independent counsel, and therefore should pay the overwhelming majority of those legal costs.
The federal government will pay $85,312.01 to the Clintons in legal fees for their lawyers' review and response to the counsel's final report, the judges ruled.
``We harbor no doubt that in the absence of the independent counsel statute the allegations surrounding the Clintons, Madison Guaranty, and Whitewater would have been similarly investigated and prosecuted by the Department of Justice,'' the three-judge panel wrote.
A spokeswoman for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton did not immediately return a call for comment. Sen. Clinton's most recent financial disclosure forms show the couple owed between $1.7 million and $6.5 million in outstanding legal bills.

They surely won't get paid; perhaps Mr. Clinton will let them go stay in his new apartment in Ireland in lieu of cash!

It doth appear that Bob Bennett is NOT going to get paid. "That couple" doesn't pay for ANYTHING.

Isn't it simply amazing how often these two corrupt attorneys lose in court? Even though they went to great efforts to pack the courts with their lib friends.

Ponder this.....there's a reason the Clintons delayed paying the bills....as I understand the IRC, legal bills paid in an effort to keep one's job would be tax deductable...but, of course, only to the extent of your income...no value when you're making $200k per year, but when you're making $10 million per year, well, he can write it all off.....

It's now in black and white that their activities stunk to high heaven and warranted an investigation.

Just look at how afraid the media is of the Clintons and retribution! Who in their right mind in the media would allow anyone to leave a pending legal bill differential at just under $5 million!!! If that were you, me, or anyone else (particularly George Bush) they would be all over them. Can you imagine telling a newspaper person that your legal bill is somewhere between $1.7 million and $6.5 million? Good God, how much lattitude do these folks get?

Remember too that Bubba got another $1million from SeeBS-Viacom to appear on 60Minutes.
Give $100k to Terry McAuliffe and let him invest it. Maybe he can turn it into another $18million. Heck, even Mrs Sir Edmund Hillary Clinton knows how to turn $1000 into $100,000.

Re#3 If I were the lawyer and understood that the grifters were not going to pay, I would write off the bill as a bad debt and issue the 'Toons a 1099. Then they would have to pay taxes, at the least. Not going to happen though...

Anybody with the stature af the Clintone who seek tax credits for donations of old underware speeks volumes about their lack of charactor. Taxes and fees are for some else to pay not the Clinton's.

Isn't it simply amazing how often these two corrupt attorneys lose in court? Even though they went to great efforts to pack the courts with their lib friends. It's always been breathtaking and I made the same comment yesterday when the roadless business was overturned. It deserves more comment from the media than it gets, but history is being written in these court findings, among other documents, and spin will not rid them of the "legacy" that has been recorded.
To: Sub-Driver
Too bad, so sad. Now they will only make about $90 million this year after payment. If they pay. WILL the IRS garnish it from her pay and his retired pay if they don't pay? He will need that "puny" tax cut now!! Ha ha.

They must be losing their influence and power over the judicial system. Does NOT bode well for the Clintoons.

It doth appear that Bob Bennett is NOT going to get paid. "That couple" doesn't pay for ANYTHING.This has been their pattern since he was AG of Ark. They like kings feel they are entitled. They are the quintessential users of OPM(mostly the taxpayers)I really believe they have made the Faustian deal!!!
