[history]
Revisionist history. That's the kindest description you can give columnist Ann Coulter's attempt to portray Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy as an American hero.
But it's more accurate to call it a lie. A damnable one, at that.
But there it is, in black and white. In her columns and in her new book, Treason.

Oh, yeah, granted. In fact, I take poor word choice as a "given", it's just an assumption with modern "journalists". They can't even be bothered with answering the basic "W" questions (who, what, why, where, when), let alone using the language appropriately.

Does this mean it will not be called "The McCarthy Era" now? That time frame should be called "the Sultzberg era" after the NY Times ownership in the era when its lies were treated as "the [newspaper of] record." This is "The Foxy Era", after Fox News Channel--and Ann!

Just curious - if you feel the need to offer no comment, why post at all? Why not ignore the thread?

I have no doubt that McGovern deserved his DFC. However, I remember in the 72 election that McGovern wanted to cut the military by 1/2 across the board. This during a time when the Soviets were expanding everywhere. Imagine, the American forces that made up NATO cut by 1/3. How do you think the Soviets would have reacted to that?
What Ann Coulter states is true - since the end of WW II, everytime that the United States is threatened, the Democrats want to sit down and talk to the enemy. They commend Castro while vilifying Bush. The left are also hypocritical. They point out that McGovern won a DFC and point him out a a war hero. However, when up against two individuals that actually served their country - Bush and Dole - the liberals ignore their combat efforts while carrying water for Clinton, the draft dodger. And while we are on the subject, while the leftist media points out that Kerry served in Vietnam, how many follow up with the fact that he threw his medals away during a war protest.

Why not READ Ann's book before commenting on it?We all know the reason; in the good old days they wouldn't have HAD to. But in the Foxy era, with Fox News Channel and Ann Coulter--to say nothing of Rush and FR--to contend with, the situation may be quite otherwise.

If Fran Porretto says he has vetted the cites, I believe it. He is nothing if not thorough.

Hey, don't get the wrong impression. I think McGovern's performance as a political leader stinks. I respect his WWII service, that's about where it ends.
I'm about 1/2-way through Treason, and bought two copies when I got it. I gave the 2nd to some conservative friends, who read it over each others shoulder on a long plane ride. I made them promise to hand it off or buy another and hand it off when they were done.
I also do guerrilla marketing, placing copies of Treason on top of the unsold stacks of Lying History, every time I cruise through Costco. BTW, my local Costco still has around 350 copies of the Hildebeast's lies, as of yesterday AM. They're down to about 20 copies of Treason.

Oh, and BTW, McGovern's idiocy with respect to the military is one of the reasons Nixon won in a 49(49?) state landslide in '72. Even back then, with little means of opposition media, the American people saw through the B.S.

When the media accuses someone of telling a lie, it means that the one they accuse of lying is telling the truth. The Gray Lady doth protest too much, indeed. In the parable the truth was told by a little boy. But truth be told, the truth was told by a FOXy lady!

Dear AZ Republic Editorial Staff,
The problem is, you see, that heroes are defined by individuals.
Groupthink never has a role.
Joe McCarthy is one of my heroes.
Deal with it!

Sources? HH was a socialist and lefty and would of and did pave the way, but I doubt it. Anyways..
" COMMUNIST CONTROL ACT (1954)An attempt to exclude the Communist Party from the ballot and deny it access to the courts to enforce contracts. While not directly outlawing the Party, this act (sponsored by Hubert Humphrey) stripped it of all rights, privileges, and immunities attendant upon legal bodies. It also forbade any member of a Communist-action or Communist-infiltrated organization from holding office or employment with any labor organization."

Yeah, that is what I was saying. The quote is from the article.
I hate the way liberals just redefine everything in their own terms without any regard for the truth.

Some battles aren't worth re-fighting. Her take on McCarthy is simply not supported by the facts. McCarthy went after General George C. Marshall by seeking to paint him with a pink brush. Door Gunner Joe was a drunk who did a great deal of damage to the hunt for real communists within our government. Seeking to rehabilitate McCarthy is digging a deep hole for conservatism to fall into.
Every side has a nut in the ranks. Joe was one of ours. History has fairly portrayed him.We don't need to resurrect
Joe. He's not one to hang our hats on.

"

I have no source other than what I heard him say himself in a TV news clip once along about '68 or '69 when he claimed that he was a card-carrying member of the communist party.
Of course, I couldn't believe anything the bum said, so he may have been just pulling everyone's chain when he said it.
