Give Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz the boot

ECRETARY OF Defense Donald Rumsfeld stands at the head of the table. He has outmaneuvered all his Cabinet rivals and taken over many of the functions that used to belong to the State Department, the CIA, even the Justice Department. He dominates the Cabinet as no secretary of defense has done since Robert McNamara. He is also articulate, refreshingly if undiplomatically blunt, with a no-nonsense approach that is at times both witty and exactly to the point.

Regretably not avail online, but hot in The New American, of July 14 ( JBS.org magazine ),

Is Trotsky Alive in the White House? Details connections of the 'so-called' neoconservatives ( who JBS hates ) to disciples of Trotsky-Wolfowitz is among those attacked. The real surprise is a cat-fight on-line at National review-Schwartz vs. Beichman about who is pure. They uphold the Trotsky scheme of constant revolution as a viable political model! Wow!

I'll look for the newspaper article which started discussion from National Post.

Then again, I should appreciate guidance-don't wish to offend the Moderator Gods. Perhaps they would respond to an innocent inquiry.

If Rumsfeld ran for President I'd vote for him.

I wouldn't. On foreign policy, he's as conservative as they come, but on domestic issues, he's as moderate as you can get. Both him and Dick Cheney joked about how back when Rummy was in congress, he "was not quite the guy who sat with the right" except on foreign policy. It should also be noted that Rumsfeld does not believe in supply side economics, and doesn't have a problem with big government.

He is probably one of the best secretary of defences ever, he is by far one of the most successfull and experienced, with wins in 2 wars, but just because he is great at one thing, does not mean it would apply all around.

It always amazes me how people can look at the same set of facts and circumstances and interpret them so differently. Either this guy is really F***ed up or I am.

Rumsfeld is Bush's favor cabinet office. He not going anywhere.

The irony is that Bush did not know Rumsfeld before he asked him to be Secretary of Defense. Bush knew Rumsfeld only by his reputation. Cheney told Bush that Rumsfeld had his highest recommendation. So Bush went with Rumsfeld.

Bush and Rumsfeld hit it off and the two are very close now.

Very true.

Personally, I think the Dem press is going after Rummy and Wolfowitz because their attack on Bush vis a vis Iraq didn't work. They're going to keep trying this, one way or another. Of course, since the person truly responsible for things being ignored in Iraq and with regard to our own domestic security is one BJ Clinton, they're going to have to keep shying away from any real attribution of responsibility.

But that's okay, the Dem press works on the basis of innuendo, anyway. No hard facts here, please.

Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz re-invented modern warfare. What they accomplished in Afghanistan and Iraq was unthinkable. Their use of Special Forces to multiply the destructive power of the air and ground forces was a major step forward in the evolution of military tactics. Of course, the technological advances in precision weaponry was a tremendous help.

This was also the first war in modern history to accomplish its goals and still come in ahead of schedule and under budget. No wonder the left wants him out.
