Savage surprise
San Mateo CountyTimes ^ | July 11, 2003

GEE, who would have guessed it? Surprise, surprise. The idea that officials at MSNBC were shocked and disappointed that hyper-conservative Michael Savage would be outrageous and offensive on the air leaves something to be desired.

Why hire the guy in the first place if they wanted him to be another obsequious Larry King/Phil Donahue clone? What did they expect? Lukewarm verbal pap? Warm and fuzzy philosophical ramblings? Political navel-gazing? It would be a bit like casting actor Danny DeVito in the role of Shaquille O'Neal and then learning later that, goodness gracious, DeVito is not only short but white as well.

The Savage reputation is well-established. His track record is firm. He's an open book for crying out loud. With him at the microphone, whether on TV or radio, you know what you're going to get. And it's not always pretty or even rational at times.

The Savage style is confrontational and harsh to say the least. In spite of his firing by the cable-TV network, he's back on radio from 4 to 7 p.m. on KNEW-910 AM on your dial. But be forewarned. Savage's scathing commentaries are not for the faint of heart.

I like "kinder, gentler nation" rather than "Savage nation". I love his politics, detest his shock rants.

I'm even more surprised that an article backhandedly sympathetic to Savage would appear in a San Mateo county newspaper.

The Savage style is confrontational and harsh...

Yes, I'm really, really offended. I going to start listening only to those liberals who are never confrontational and harsh. From now on it's only Michael Moore and Al Franken for me.

Go Michael, Go. Give them hell... all the way to the bank.

I would much rather have someone tell me straight what the hell is going on than it being sugar coated or just flat avoided.

Only two people provide that service: Dr. Laura, and Michael Savage. The former can no longer be heard in Houston, and you have to pay money to hear her on the net. But the latter is accessible both ways.

BUMP

As much as Savage pisses me off sometimes, I still listen. I'm of the belief that the right needs "some" spokespersons to offset the lefts' bile on their level. Mike does it, and I will continue to listen.

Mike makes me laugh. Love his show! I don't take anybody too seriously except Jesus Christ, because we are totally flawed, and he is not.

I think the answer to that is that the Left hates Michael Savage, but love it the more exposure he gets. When he says stuff like he did, it reinforces every stereotype they try to pin on conservatives.

I've listened to Mike for a long time, and I love KSFO.

There's no way I'd pick Hannity over Mike, though. Clearly Mike has taken a hit, but I think Jack Swanson really opened a can of worms, this time...

"Why hire the guy in the first place"

MSNBC hired Savage for one reason: to prove how loud, obnoxious and over the top the RIGHT-WING is. They knew it wouldn't take long.

But ... I don't agree with his statements - about getting aids and dying. I've seen a co-worker die of aids.

I wouldn't fall on my sword for that doofus. Methinks Savage is still a liberal through and through, but a smart one who has figured out how to make it in the broadcating/entertainment business. He probably just says on the radio, the opposite of what he truly believes. Anyone who thinks that a San Francisco - Berkeley PhD - herbalist - skinny dipper friend of proud NAMBLA member Allen Ginsberg can change his stripes that far is deluded.

Yep! The people named in the lawsuits have attributed statements to Savage that he never said and using those false statements to get advertisers to drop Savage in a brazen attempt to shut him up. That is why Savage is suing them, and they obviously think it is a joke.

I will enjoy seeing them stop laughing after they get their afts handed to them.

So basically you are saying Savage is a liar and a person is incapable of changing their mind and attitude.

Guess what, pal? As early as 1992, I was a pro-choice liberal. I even voted for Clinton. But if you look at my home page and got to know me now, you would never know it.

So if you are going to continue about things you know nothing about, maybe you should go back to lurking. Because to paraphrase Mark Twain, it is better for one to think you are a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
