July 10, 2003 -- Kobe Bryant's alleged sex-assault victim is an aspiring chanteuse who drove a thousand miles for a shot at stardom on Fox's blockbuster "American Idol," a friend told The Post yesterday.
Despite being cut from the hit reality show, the alleged victim's a talented pianist and songwriter who hopes to become a music teacher when she graduates college, friends said.

How about this. A nineteen year old talented girl working in the summer to help pay her expenses and her college who did the guy a favor and wanted to meet him and the SOB assaults her. It amazes me that the take on this is so very different. Why would anyone assume a girl working at a job in the summer would automatically be a slut trying to frame a guy. There is not enough info here to make that judgement in my opinion.

I'm in the "open mind" camp. But this passage got my attention:
When a caller requested room service for Bryant, sources said, the teen told
the caller room service had ended at 10 p.m. But then, a source said,
she "decided to go up to his room" anyway.
Of course, this is filtered through "a source" and the reporter...but if this
event actually happened this way...I do wonder why the young lady would
bother to go to his room even if she's already said that room service ended at 10 PM.
It may just be a false impression, but if I heard this in a court room,
I couldn't help wondering if she decided to deliver some "room service" of her own.
And even if she did, if she got assaulted, then Kobe is still in trouble.

That the "girl went to his room" fuels my speculation.
According to the article, the girl has ambitions, unfulfilled ambitions.
Would she have gone to the room of a non-celeb? I doubt it.
To me, she appears to be either a celeb-groupie or a star-struck girl hoping to garner the favor or merely the autograph of a well-known and popular athlete.
What actually or factually happened in his room? I don't know. I am speculating. He's rich and famous and that makes him a target.
But hey, what do I know? I'm from Kalifornia.

It could have happened that way. But Kobe Bryant has a really, really squeaky-clean image. He's not been involved in any sort of shenanigans at all. How foolish it would have been for him to assualt someone from a hotel bringing room service to his room! That just doesn't ring true at all. He's recently-married and seems to have his wife with him all the time. I just don't see it.
I'm no big sports fan, but Kobe has been one of the decent athletic images out here in CA. I don't see him ruining that image for a little grab and tickle at a hotel in Colorado, right after having knee surgery. It just doesn't make any sense.

Or from another perspective...
Girl who wants to be a Music Teacher and thinks she has a nice voice takes a shot as one of 10,000+ contestents to make it on a TV Show.
She then has the audacity to deliver good customer service just after the official time for room service was over. She then get's assaulted, reports it right away and they take both people to the hospital.
There according to the hospital she displays sign consistent with sexual abuse.
---
While I do not know "What happened" I am going to give BOTH parties the benefit of the doubt. Let the cops and a jury sort the thing out. All we are getting right now is SPIN...

Riiiight. A woman would never makes up a story about being "sexually assaulted".

Hmm...
Let's look at this another way. You're Kobe Bryant. You've just had knee surgery and you're staying in this fancy hotel in Colorado. You call for room service. Even though it's after hours, it gets delivered to your room by a young woman. What do you do?
1. Grab the girl, grope her to the point of bruises and scratches, then kick her out of the room. Of course, you'll get in big trouble for doing this and spoil your good image and lose some valuable endorsements, but what the heck?
2. Give her a tip and take the food, then send her on her way.
3. Have one of the guys travelling with you tip her and take the food, then send her on her way.
Which makes the most sense here?

Girls are "blonde", guys are "blond."
Spelling errors are a pet peeve of mine, especially in this type of newspaper.

["That's why I don't think she would make this up - I don't think she would want to go through all of this," her friend, Joanie Ewing, said.
Ewing said she initially thought the reported attack was a fabrication, "but now that I know who it is, that changed my whole perspective."]
Hmm. This isn't exactly a ringing endorsement from a friend who originally thought that she fabricated the whole thing. And this friend (last name Ewing, ironically enough) could of course be mistaken when she says "i don't think she would want to go through all this."

If room service wasn't available, why did a hotel employee decide to go to the room anyway? Why? Cause it's Kobe Bryant, a hero in Hollywood, and she is an aspiring entertainer looking for all the contacts she can get in Hollywood.
There is nothing suspicious about hotel service people cutting breaks for superstars. I'm quite sure it happens all the time.

Why would anyone think that a woman would accuse a man she never had sex with of paternity?
There is not enough info here to make that judgement in my opinion.
I'll heartily say amen to that.
This case could be anything along the spectrum from naive young lady is lured
into room of a thug who has hitherto been successful in stealth mode as a "nice guy"...
to the other extreme of cunning female offers a quick liason, then when she is shown
the door after demanding time/money/attention, cries rape.
And I won't be suprised if when we get "the rest of the story", the truth
may be more like a murky story in the middle of this spectrum.

Did you used to work for Bill Clinton?
Wait, you couldn't have, because their "MO" is "she wants a book deal", and you didn't mention that. Or maybe you just forgot that talking point.

I believe Glenn Beck reported this morning that Kobe called a cab, left the room by a back elevator, had a towel over his face, and the towel remained on his head till he got wherever he was going.
I find it despicable that people are speculating already that the young lady is a slut who went to Kobe's room just to entrap him. I ran a business where we catered to customers who needed service after closing hours and before opening hours, also. If this was late at night, there may not have been enough help, and this gal may have had her employer's interests at heart to deliver room service to a celebrity guest. Who knows?
Isn't it a little early to paint her as a whore and blackmailer and he is just an innocent Little Lord Fauntleroy?

Nutty or greedy. It happens all the time...people injure themselves every day to collect insurance. Think about it. A girl, probably semi-anorexic if she's trying for American Idol. She twists the skin on her upper arms...creates a nice bruise. Scratches herself a little with her fingernails. Not much pain. Heals fastI'm sorry, but what American Idol show are you talking about? This is a totally bizarre statement considering the LACK of skinny people on the show.

I have a feeling that if/when charges are filed, they will be airtight, and the prosecutor is waiting to get everything lined up before he files charges. If they have physical evidence from both parties (sounds like it does), Kobe will have some explaining to do. The fact that he checked out abruptly the next morning makes it sound bad.

Read it again please... the way I read it is that she initially thought it was a fabrication but THEN found out WHO it was that reported it. Knowing the person involved personally changed her perspective.
But I could be wrong...
Even though a neighboor of theirs is reporting the very same thing in a different story I read online.

I'm guessing in a struggle involving scratching, there would be some interesting DNA under some peoples' fingernails....
