European media began this week to speculate about the next campaign for the US presidency... reported on the possibility of Condolezza Rice reincarnating as a vice presidential candidate in 2004. European reporters considered this a potentially brilliant political move, which, in their opinion, could easily carry President Bush to re-election.
According to European observers, Rice is the quintessential product of the American Dream, and of the African-American civil rights movement. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, during segregationist times to a Presbyterian pastor, she was raised with the belief that if one stays in school, works hard, and trusts in God one can achieve anything. She speaks four languages, is an accomplished pianist, and a strong athlete. Driven to excellence in everything she did, she devoted herself to foreign policy when she concluded that she would never become a world renowned musician-- though recently she performed with great ease with cellist Yo-Yo Ma--or a sports champion, though during her years as professor and provost at Stanford University, she was known to train with the best athletes.
Rice was originally called to the White House from Stanford University--where at the time she was teaching-by then-President George H. Bush to advise him on the then-Soviet Union. After that stint, she returned to Stanford as the youngest provost in the university's history. Many credit Rice with having spurred Stanford University to educational excellence and with having contributed to diversifying its faculty and student body.
Assuming that Dick Cheney will not run again in 2004, either for health reasons or because he may be scapegoated for the Enron fiasco, Condoleezza Rice would be the first African-American and the second woman... to run on a major party's presidential ticket.
A Condoleezza Rice candidacy would almost certainly electrify the black vote. In such a campaign, African-Americans might well see an occasion to seize history and to situate one of their own in a pole position for the presidency in 2008.

Intriguing possibility. I heard Boortz talking about this subject on his show today. The idea is extremely exciting. I had heard the possibility of a Powell/Rice Ticket in 2008. But, I must admit that a Rice/Powell ticket sounds much more appealing.

I love Condi, but I would be more interested in seeing her run on the ticket in '08.

I'm a ig fan of Condi, who is tough and brilliant, but if the Europeans are promoting her candidacy, I'll have to give it a second thought. There must be some hidden agenda at work.

She's great and she's got my vote whenever she's on the ticket.

Not to be discounted. The fact that Dr. Condoleezza Rice has no record of holding a nationally recognized elective office has to be something of a disadvantage, but she does have a very respectable
curriculum vitae.
I say she should be drafted for the position, if for any reason Dick Cheney is unable to fill the remainder of his term to 2008. She should certainly be under serious consideration for either President or Vice-President candidate in 2008.

I love Condi, but I would be more interested in seeing her run on the ticket in '08. Granted! But if Hillary jumps into the fray, regardless of opinions of her, the campaign will become vibrant, exciting, lady statesman versus grumpy corrupt old men. (In with the new, out with the old). The media will see to it. The Bush/Cheney ticket may still prevail. But a Bush/ Rice ticket would be like a steamroller wiping the Dems into irrelevancy for generations and propelling the Republicans into the political future as champions of a new millenium.
The idea in itself is fantastic. But, the mere possibility that we could have the Clintoons back in 2004 is horrific enough in itself to make a Bush/Rice ticket the subject for thoughtful consideration.

Bush/Rice in 2004 is the hot setup. Probably too intelligent a move to appeal to the Stupid Party!

I believe it was 'back in '00 that several of us on FR were espousing Condi for just this position when Cheney suddenly appeared. It reappeared after the election when Cheney's heart attack came about, and it won't go away on FR. I don't think that Condi has a snowball's chance in '08 unless she is vice-pres before that.
Of course, any talk of Condi as Pres assumes that she has given up (or deferred) her expressed desire to be Commissioner of the NFL...

The President and VP Cheney have already announced they
will run as a team for re-election next year.
My prediction: the VP will resign, (citing health reasons,) in 2006.
President Bush will nominate Rice as his new VP.
She will easily get approval, as even the commiecRATs couldn't justify "Borking," a black woman.
The ticket in 2008 will be incument VP Rice and her running mate Gov Jeb Bush.
They will win in 2008 and 2012. In 2016 VP Jeb Bush will run for President.
I won't guess as to who he will want as his running mate.

Geez! Are we reviewing candidates or christening a lineage. Let's continue to promote right-thinking minds and thoughtful competent individuals, not sir-names. The US already has one House of Usher... let it pass with Ole Eddy Kennedy.
