but that doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve psychiatric care, or a fair trial.

Yes, he deserves this.

He knew what he was doing. He knew it was wrong. I was an 8 yo boy once and I damn sure never even considered doing something like this. He had a total disregard for the evil that he was doing.

This kid has major problems. Really major problems. This needs to be nipped right now!

It will be. He will be given a fair trial, and he will receive psychiatric care. Isn't that what should happen?

I grew up with a kid who was constantly torturing cats and kittens, setting them on fire, hanging them off telephone poles by a jack knife through the tail, blowing them up with cherry bombs, etc.

We smaller, younger kids were petrified of him.

He had a long and honorable career in the local fire department and is now retired.

My skin still crawls just thinking about him...

Treatments for Antisocial Personality Disorder Research done by Stephanie Gramza for Psychology 309, University of Wisconsin - Marinette

Unfortunately there are few treatments that have proven effective for antisocial personality disorder. The problem lies not in the lack of possible treatments themselves but more within the people who have this disorder. Those who suffer from antisocial personality disorder do not see themselves in need of treatment, therefore, they rarely seek out any help. In fact, only about one-quarter of people with this disorder actually receive treatment and one study showed that out of those that do receive help 70% left this treatment prematurely (Gabbard & Coyne, 1987).
