I'm still amazed when I run into conservatives who haven't yet heard of Free Republic. We need some free publicity to get more visibility. Maybe if we were a religious cult ... yeah, that's it -- The Church of the Anti-Crust (Hillary)

We need some free publicity to get more visibility. I like my advertising the old fashioned way...I BUY it!
Hey, after the current freep-a-thon, anyone interested in an FR "Market-a-thon" to raise funds for print ads in major conservative publications and an outdoor (billboard) campaign in the top 20 markets?

I love the link on Rush; I remember that I found FR by the link it had on Drudge. It pays to advertise--I suspect that FR could do well to make an advertising budget for itself. Probably ought to advertise on Fox News, if we could. Obviously just a one-shot or something . . .

There are times when I find an interesting article on FreeRepublic that I copy and paste in an email to family and friends. I always make sure to give FreeRepublic a mention - and a link to the article.
One of the things I have always liked about FR over Drudge is that I not only get to read the articles but I love the comments. Concerning the WashPost/LATimes thing, I never could understand that. I compared what FreeRepublic was doing to if I bought the paper, and then showed an article I liked to 25 people who did not buy the paper. Isn't that the same thing?

The best advertizing for this site is for those of us who value it to send a link to it to our like minded friends. Word of mouth will bring the right people on board.

We need some free publicity to get more visibility. If Lance Armstrong is looking good to win the Tour de France, my wife and I are thinking of going to some of the last few stages to cheer him on. If we do, I'll be sure and hold up sign with "FreeRepublic.com" on it as the riders pass ;-) If I do that on the Champs Elysees, we'll get loads of exposure.

Actually, the free publicity route is more effective than an advertising campaign.
Every time there are plans to FReep an event, a series of press releases should be sent to all area major news outlets -- announcing the upcoming event, just prior to the event, and then a news summary about the event. (The "news summary" press releases are especially effective if you include photos; think of such publicity efforts as being your own wire service -- like AP, Reuters, etc. Some outlets will run such articles "as is" and others will hone them.) Include quotes in the releases and contact phone numbers. Sometimes newspapers run them as is; other times reporters use the contact numbers to do follow-up to hone the articles that run. Extremely liberal newspapers may ignore such publicity attempts at first, but once other outlets begin covering such events, they may get on the bandwagon, too.
Well-written letters to the editor can work well, too.
Even if everybody on FR has more money than time, paid ads alone are seldom as effective.
