Did anyone else here happen to hear Rush mention Free Republic around 1:20 PM Eastern time? I was taping his program, but the tape ran out just as he mentioned us. To the best of my ability, I'll try to remember how he led into it:
In the context of telling everyone to quit worrying about moveon.org, and the influence they have with people, he said that if you want to see what REAL influence is, just let Drudge turn his site over to activism and you will see "REAL influence".
He said that if he decided to have another "Dan's Bake Sale" type event --- you would also get to see "REAL influence".
Then he said, "Heck --- no way moveon.org can even match Free Republic" for REAL influence.

Now what can we say about George? We were right; you were wrong. I never thought that George was a "true conservative"...but I knew he was a sight more conservative than Al Gore (maybe saner too) and I remembered 1992.

Hmmm. I really began to believe that he was. He DID pick Cheney. I definitely agree about saner than Gore. Gore's deficiency goes beyond the socially bizarre to perhaps the pathological.
Anyway, I have espoused a theory for a couple of years that the country and conservatism was better off with Klinton as prez than we would have been with Bush I. That's grist for another thread, but I have yet to be effectively refuted, IMO. It started as an inchoate idea I threw out and, as I had to defend it, it seemed more and more reasonable, not only from developing the idea but from the few lame "rebuttals". Anyway, if I can make this link work--I am terrible--I recommend this week's Fred on Everything. He tells it just about exactly the way I see it (advance apologies if it doesn't work--you'll have to cut and paste).

"The fact that the group is still called "Move On" after Clinton's been out of office for 3 years shows how pathetic they are."Gee, it seems to me like there's not really much difference semantically between "Move On" and "Shove Off!"

I'd love to see him do a national show on the road as part of "bake sales" benefitting true conservative organizations. Something like a live mike at each bake sale doing a show live. Rush is an awesome broadcaster and could pull it off. His bake sale here in Colorado was a HUGE success. I missed it, and I've always kicked myself for that.

Then he said, "Heck --- no way moveon.org can even match Free Republic" for REAL influence. That seems like a put-down on Free Republic; that we're so low, that moveon.org has to be pretty bad to be lower even than us.

Good Job Jim, I remember the days when Rush would make fun of FreeRepublic, apparently he understands the value of what you have created.

I missed it when I walked into Home Depot - just heard the Dan's bake sale thing.
The thing that cracked me up was when Rush started talking about the Dean vs The Punk and that Dean should stay away from Fort Macey Park (I forget the name - the Vince Foster RIP). What a hoot! That was what I read here last night in our thread regarding Drudge's headline of same. Made me think Rush was lurking 'cause it was an almost word for word quote of one of the posters last night here.
