[history]
John G. Adams, a key figure in the proceedings that effectively ended Sen. Joseph McCarthy's career, passed quietly from the scene last week at age 91. Not surprisingly, his death made no news; it's been a while since those heady days when McCarthy launched his investigations of the Army, which had, he charged, been shielding countless Communist agents at Fort Monmouth and elsewhere. It fell to Adams, the Army's chief counsel, to deal with the charges, which he did to devastating effect in the Army-McCarthy hearings that held the nation in thrall in the 1950s.

The antisemitism card is being played against Ann Coulter. Strawman. Who said anything about Jews on this thread?
If you're automatically assuming that Buchanan is anti-semitic, well, that's your problem, isn't it?

Sure, I've heard of Stan Evans, he's been a around for ages, and has been a mentor for many who choose to join the ranks of journalists who are not beholden to the Columbia School of Journalism ;-)I think he is and has been a longtime sponsor of the Young Americans for Freedom group, and a noted a movement conservative.

Coulter is one of the best 'conservative' writters today. She's in the ranks of such greats as Buchanan, Horowitz and Hitchens.
They are always 'must reads' and have confounded the 'liberals'. They dominate Amazon.com and FR. Of course if you can't bash a 'priest', Buchanan or now even Coulter will do.
One good thing the Supreme Court ruled on was that the lower courts abide by Statue of Limitations, preventing them for 'kangarooing' a 'few' old priest based primarily on Homosexual 30yr old questionable accusations.

That is NOT the same thing at all. " TREASON " is a book about the smearing of McCarthy's name , because he went after COMMIES in the USA governemt AND the fact that Dems coddled, harbored, shielded those Commies. It is NOT , no matter what is being claimed by Dorothy and some here, a biography about Joe McCarthy.

Squirming in print is difficult.
Rabinowitz doesn't do it any better than the other anti-American leftees....and there are too many to name.....Barbara Strident Streisand is the first that comes to mind! Thousands of others.
Does anyone have a currently accurate list of the most virulant of the anti-American left. Seems to me I saw one circulating on FR during IraqII - would love to see it again.

Dorothy Rabinowitz can only dream about being a writer the caliber of Ann Coulter. She's trying real hard:
This piece by Rabinowitz oozes with snide sarcasm.
I'll grant you, there's no writer more snide than Ann Coulter.

I haven't read Ann's book and I cannot comment on the history here. However, Dorothy Rabinowitz is one of the finest journalists alive today. i read every column and she does exhaustive research and is very conservative...but honest.
Before people throw out words like liberal, scumbag, moron, etc. they need to have a better grasp of Dorothy's talents.
As conservatives, we should appreciate the truth. Dorothy Rabinowitz is a very composed, excellent writer and investigator. Take her concerns with some credence. She is at the same level as Peggy Noonan and others.

And this point, is being totaly ignored, twisted, and/or tied up in vast Gordian knots, by Dorothy and her little helpers here.
Are we on FR, or DU ?

I assume PJB is anti- Semitic, don't you? Jeez, who doesn't by now?

The whole point of resurecting Mcarthy is it infuriates libs. There were alot of Nazi's protected after WWII. Verner Von Braun comes to mind. What makes conservatives mad is THERE WERE COMMIES IN THE GUBMINT, AND JOE OUTED SOME OF THEM! People have concentrated on how mean he was, how drunk he was, and so on, but left out the fact that he did a great service to America when we needed it most. Libs still won't admit Hiss was a commie, even after Soviet documents say he was. I can still remember the angst Chris Mathews had admitting it "looked bad for Hiss", when the news came out. He didn't care that he was a commie in the bowels of the government as much as admitting the Republicans were right for the last 50 years.
If Ann can re-habilitate Joe, so be it. I'll take it. I remember how enlightening it was to read about John Birch after a liftime of hearing how his followers were wacko's. He was a patriot of the first degree. His followers sometimes have their foil hats a little tight, but I agree with their tennets for the most part. When I found Mcarthy had actually outed commies and they resigned, I found nothing wrong with the tactics. I'm to the point now of trying to out Democrats in the government and show their names on the socialist websites to people I know. They still believe there is a difference between a commie and a Democrat. Imagine that!

In WWII, atrocities by both sides were more common than most people can imagine. Really. Well, if they were so common, list a dozen Allied atrocities from WWII right here. Go ahead.

She should have read the entire book before she wrote her article.
After you read the book, re-read the article and you'll see why we are "disappointed" in Dorothy. She certainly doesn't come up to the standard of Peggy Noonan and others.

Are you accusing me of being a helper of DU trolls?
To cast a gimlet eye towards Coulter doen't make the work of Tailgunner Joe any less valid.
To: sinkspur
I'll grant you, there's no writer more snide than Ann Coulter.Touche.
But at least Ann is on the side of good over evil. Rabinowitz has clearly chosen the side of the enemies of honor and decency, the scumbag liberals. So what's that make her?

" TREASON " is a book about the smearing of McCarthy's name.If McCarthy defended the Waffen SS, his name deserves to be smeared.

The book is not about McCarthy at all, The reason why McCarthy was used at all was because of how Liberals smeared him for his efforts to expose the Communist spies among them. Alger Hiss was a proven spy and nobody on the left would listen to McCarthy, instead, Alger Hiss and others went on a campaign to destroy McCarthy and the left took up the slogans of "Red Baiting" and "McCarthyism" straight from the Commies themselves. This is much like we here about the evil VRWC today.

Bingo, The book is about Liberals siding with our enemies and their neglect of our National Security. The McCarthy defense is not an endorsement of McCarthy as it was an indictment of Liberalism and how McCarthy was correct about the Soviet spies that infiltrated the democratic party. This is criticism of her book for leaving out a flaw in McCarty's character is kinda cherry picking an omission of details bout McCarthy than it is on the point of the book
Well, I kind of think it's important that if we are to believe that McCarthy was correct in his crusade, that we should also know that McCarthy wasn't involved in any other asinine crusades. For example, if Carter says we should not have a war in Iraq, I think before we accept his opinion, we shouldn't overlook the years of moronic behavior and policy decisions on his part.
From the interviews I've seen, Coulter's opinions are very much based in the integrity of McCarthy:
COULTER: And then after bullying people into taking the position, you then cite their quotes. Let's look at the facts. That's what my book does.
I know a lot of people are afraid of Joe McCarthy. And I know that you know a lot of myths about him. I'm trying to correct the record.

Touche. But at least Ann is on the side of good over evil. Rabinowitz has clearly chosen the side of the enemies of honor and decency, the scumbag liberals. So what's that make her? Well, if I remember correctly, Rabinowitz also sided with Junita Brodderick. You siding against Rabinowitz--by your logic--makes you an enemy of Brodderick. Which I guess makes you a friend of that rapist Bill Clinton. Funny how that logic works, huh?
To: Eva
The biggest error that I noticed in the article is that Rabinowitz is confusing the House on UnAmerican Activities Committee with the Senate McCarthy hearings. They are not the same thing. McCarthy went after government officials and employees, not actors and other average citizens. Ann explained all that in her book.Read it again. She did no such thing.

I will when time permits but as a reader of the WSJ editorials (every day) for over a decade, I can say without a doubt that they are the best out there and very conservative. Everything that Dorothy has done is top notch and very factual. I will go with what I know right now but will reserve judgement.
My point is simple: Dorothy doesn't need to be trashed as a moron for this article: she is intelligent and sharp.
After watching Ann dozens of times on various programs and Dorothy about the same, Ann comes across as pure combative whereas Dorothy comes across as more composed and factual. I like Ann a lot but it is my observation.
