U.S. Offers $25 Million Reward for Saddam's Capture

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The United States is offering $25 million for any information that leads to the capture of ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein or proves that he is dead, a spokesman for Iraq's U.S.-led administration said on Thursday.

"(Administration head) Ambassador (Paul) Bremer will be announcing a new $25 million reward for information leading to the capture of Saddam Hussein or information confirming his earlier death," the spokesman told reporters.

He said $15 million was being offered for similar information about either of Saddam's two sons, Uday and Qusay.

After dumping $100 billion on the operation thus far, whats another $25 mil. Afterall, offering a "bounty" worked so well in the capture of Osama...

What? Did they have to wait to transfer this from the unpaid Osama reward fund? Why didn't they do this from Day One? Honest to God - we run a brilliant campaign - interspersed with huge gaps of jaw-dropping stupidity.

I don't think this is new. Seems to me I remember this being offered during the war in Afghanistan. I recall it because they neglected to say US $25M and the locals though it was their currency...which, I guess amounted to about a $1.50. They had to redo their leaflet to make it clear it was US $25M.

Anybody who acts on the belief that the US will honor its commitments is nuts. The US has consistently hired foreign spies, not paid them, and then relied on an 1870 US Supreme Court decision, Totten v. United States, to have their claims dismissed in court without a trial.

Awards should be done like "The Visit". A cool million for the person who brings the body of Saddam and another $24,000,000 to be divided equally between all the people living within a five mile radius of the take down. This system provides cover, adds competition, and protects the people going after him.

Sounds good to me... as long as we take it out of Saddam's own frozen assets :-)

Maybe we should just offer a trade... whoever turns Saddam in gets one of the palaces!
