Anyone who doubts that the tone of the debate over environmental policy in this city is in serious need of improvement need only look at the reaction to last week's release of the Environmental Protection Agency's first "Draft Report on the Environment."
This report, the product of more than two years' work collaborating with more than two dozen federal departments and agencies and state and private-sector contributors, is designed to help answer a question I posed at my confirmation hearing 2 1/2 years ago: Are America's environmental policies making our air cleaner, its water purer and its land better protected -- or not?

That's why I was disappointed that so many of those people who make their living as Washington environmentalists instinctively attacked our report.
Christie, why are you always trying to be loved by enviro-wackos? No matter how much you appease them, youre still a Republican (technically) so theyll never let you play their save-the-reindeer games.
Shouldnt you get back to important matters, like patting down perps?

A RINO, just now realizing that the Left is profoundly intellectually dishonest?
Perhaps there is hope.
To: Mr. Jeeves
If many think a RINO
really only now has seen the light, there
is no hope.
Intellectual dishonesty applies more fittingly to those who would limit the dishonesty of the Left to intellectual matters alone. More evidence that we live down to the label "stupid party" with each passing day.

I don't know what your gripe is with this piece - she's making some good points.
To: Steve_Seattle
My gripe is with Ms. Whitman in general, and her pandering to environmental lobbyists, which started long before her EPA job.
I think it's humorous that she's disappointed she still hasn't won them over.

The sad part is these moderates (RINOS)like Whitman are stupid, they don't realize how their compromise outlook is a recipe for ruin- it doesn't do what's needed so as to appease the left, and then the left is never satisfied so they demand more and treat the situation as if the republicans had done nothing at all.

A republican reaching out to the greens is like a frog giving a ride to a scorpion.
