As the Freeper Resident Critic of George W Bush. If Bush would get the US out of the UN and possibly NATO, and realize that Saudi Arabia and China are this country's mortal enemies and get our Department of Hate to work in cooperation with these policies, then I may admit, like most Freepers here, that "W" walks on water.

Somehow, some of this sounds familiar.

China has been a principal supplier of advanced technologies in communications, nuclear weapons and missiles for Iran, North Korea and the late Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq TWO IMPORTANT DISCLOSURES: 1. Saddam is DEAD! and 2. Iraq had nukes and missles! Case closed on the denial of the WMD and whereabouts of Sodom

The People's Republic of China (PRC) is losing its hard-won image as a force for stability in Asia as key thinkers in and around the Bush administration are beginning to view it as a dangerous and often reckless power that is fomenting fear and instability.
NO SHIT!!
If this change sweeps through the government leadership like other recent paradigm shifts - for instance, the quickly spreading view that Saudi Arabia no longer is a stable force in the Middle East but a corrupt and unpopular financier of terrorism - Sino-American relations will be headed for the rocks. That's bad news for the Chinese Communist Party leadership and the U.S. and other companies that have built their fortunes on it.
TOUGH SHIT
To: Tailgunner Joe
. Much of the U.S. economy now depends heavily on the Chinese status quo. I wish I could argue with that statement, but I can't. It may even be an understatement.

Thanks.
Kudos to Peter Zhang. I like his writing but not what he has to say.. but he is right. Japan tried the same trick not so many years ago. China still smolders over the ass-whipping they took in the 30s, and yes, even in Korea in the 50s.
They have reached into the western hemisphere which is where they now overplay their hand and test our resolution to meet any challenge with force, if necessary.

Thank God, Buddah and all the other names for God, that we have an American administration with brains now. A refreshing change after the stained presidency that preceded this one!
China has been warlike for, what, 5,000 years now? Should we expect a change when their real goal is world domination? More likely, they will be faced with a major challenge by Muslims; let's hope both suffer a "pyrhhic 'defeat'", as lovely Martha would say..."That would be a good thing!"

Well duh, all those "key thinkers" had to do was look south of the border and they might see it for real. You will note that Chinese activity in Mexico doesn't even get a mention.

Revoke MFN and put a 100% tarriff on all Chinese imported goods.
Then I'll start believing.

I still think Waller places too little emphasis on the Philippines. If we get every other piece of containment he recommends, Russia, India, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan (I believe that's them), the Philippines will be China's only outlet.
At least he sees the ChiComs are a threat.

Do you have the link to the Waller thread you posted?

Singapore: This staunch U.S. ally, which recently completed port upgrades to host U.S. Navy warships, including aircraft carriers, announced it is withdrawing its military-training facilities in Taiwan and moving them to the PRC. I hadn't heard this. What do you think might be their motive?

The Phillipines is too culturally impermeable to China. Heck the folks there love Americans more than almost any nation on earth. Do you mean Mersheimer (sp)? I don't have a clue who Waller is.

My mistake. Waller is the author of the article on this thread.
As for China, if they go expansionist, I'm not sure they'll be concerned about Philippine permeability. This is an archipelago that is accustomed to being occupied.
