Principled Conservatives, Not Clever Strategery

by Rush Limbaugh

One of the conspiracy theories evolving out there has George W. Bush and Tom DeLay working together, while appearing to be at odds, to kill certain legislation conservatives don't like. The prescription drug bill would be a prime example.

Bush gets the opportunity to say publicly that he's for it, and gets the credit from Democrats for trying, but ultimately it doesn't happen. The close vote in the House of Representatives on their version of the prescription drug bill had no wiggle room in there, but there's all kinds of wiggle room in the Senate. So whatever the conference committee between the House and Senate produces, if it's not almost exactly what the House came up with in the first place, the House could vote it down, meaning there would be no prescription drug benefit added to Medicare at all.

Conservatives win when the votes are counted on the legislation, and Bush wins too, because he's been all over the map demanding it. There's not a person in this country who does not know that George W. Bush wants this prescription drug benefit on his desk now and wants to sign it. This is by no means, a slam-dunk, but it's a theory that more and more people are glomming onto. This is either a very fortunate accident or it's one of the most clever bits of maneuvering and strategery that we have seen yet.

I discuss the ins and outs of this in a little further detail in the audio link below, but I do issue this warning.

Some of you out there may be assigning mythic proportions to this man, George W. Bush, much like the liberals did with Bill Clinton, assuming he's doing everything for a reason, and that in the end, he's always going to snooker the other side.

I'd be a little careful about that, folks. I don't necessarily believe that there is any strategery going on here. If this bill dies, it won't be because of a secret plan.

It will be because of principled conservatives in the House of Representatives, conservatives like Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, who went to the White House and told the president in person that he could not and would not support this bill.

I know I left out a lot, DO.
I live and work in deep South Texas.
I could take up a lot of bandwidth with what I've seen and heard.
Suffice it to say that it has GOT to change!

You should see some of my posts when I'm tired. Honestly, they are embarassing. Perhaps I'm guilty of thinking the best of TBLSHOW, but then I try to think the best of those who back Bush on every issue too.

I appreciate your comments. And hey, perhaps I'm wrong on this issue. I don't think so, but then I've goofed before and can guarantee you I will again.

That's okay. WE don't have to agree on it.

I will say that did take place on another thread though. You know what the folks here would say if I were to capture some comment of a Bush supporter on another thread to take them to task here for it.

That's okay. You can't list it all. It would take all week.

"Then the clerks breaking the laws should be reported."

Please don't be naive.
The clerks are Spanish, the store manager is Spanish, the police department is Spanish, the whole frigging town is Spanish!
How far do you think I'd get?
Wake up!
This has become a way of life! They see nothing wrong in it.

Spare me. He called everybody who doesn't agree with him blind in the third post on this thread.

Lots of us wish you would open your eyes and see.

I know I am not living in your circumstances....but I have lived in circumstances where I thought NOTHING could be done.

And all I can say is that by doing nothing...that is exactly what I got. Nothing.

Rush: "What good is winning the House if we're going to pass liberalism? What good is winning the House if all we're going to do is liberalism-lite?"

IOW, for a party that controls the Presidency, the Senate AND the Congress, the GOP seems content to play an ideological 'prevent offense'...

Mustn't jeopardize the BIG TENT seating reservations.

I agree wholeheartedly. President Bush has indicated he's anxious to receive the bill and I believe him. If it fails to make it out of conference, that will not be as a result of Bush. Rather, it'll be against his wishes.

First let me apologize for my outburst.
This is a very frustrating issue for me, and I get emotional about it.

So far I've seen no one who was upset about the abuse of our system in South Texas.
Like the checker told me at one grocery store, "It's government assistance!"
I said, "NO! It's YOUR assistance! It's MY assistance! The damn money doesn't grow on trees!"
She gave me the same shrug of the shoulders as everyone I've mentioned it to.
They accept this abuse of their tax dollars the same way people in Mexico accept the graft of their political leaders.

Granted, the borders are a huge problem, and I do not agree with Bush on his border policy. But, he hasn't given amnesty to anyone, and I don't think it will happen.

Forget Amnesty a moment, I'm interested in your opinion on this...

Will there be fewer, or more Illegals in the US when Bush leaves office, than there were when he was first sworn in?

If the answer is "more," will Bush have done a good job on this issue?

"And all I can say is that by doing nothing...that is exactly what I got. Nothing."

I'm doing all I can.
I talk to people everyday, and this is the burning issue on my mind.
Every post I make on this forum regarding immigration is my attempt to enlighten and educate posters and lurkers that this insidious disease of illegals is MUCH bigger and more dangerous than any of our political leaders would have us believe, for the possible exception of Tom Tancredo.
OUR PRESIDENT HAS GOT TO TURN THIS AROUND!
HE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN!

Yes, I did post that article. We're not living in China buddy. Last time I checked this was still the U.S.A. and this is a DISCUSSION board. The article brought to light a lot of interesting points. The author (Chuck Baldwin) said in the article that he DOES NOT think that Bush is the anti-christ. Get a life, please.

The politicos in this nation drive me crazy.  No amnesty might not be granted, but don't bet the farm on that.  However, let's look at this differently.  Have swearing in ceremonies ceased?  I'm not convinced at all that while we all sit here debating, a major portion of the eleven million illegals we know are here, are not being legalized.

We do know that the Mexican government and Mexican embassies in the US have basicly set policy for the United States by providing a legal document recognized by various agencies of US state(s) and federal government.  What agency of the US government is confirming the identities these people claim?  Are they using their right name, age, criminal history etc.?  Who would know?  Surely not the US government who's ignored this activity for the last two years or so.

As for your question regarding if there will be more illegals when Bush leaves, from the period around 1989 to the year two thousand, we know at least eleven million illegals entered the nation.  Since the two thousand census, another three million has likely entered.  By 2008 another five million will have entered.  We're talking aobut 19,000,000 mouths to fead and that's only if they don't have children.  If they do (like they wouldn't) we could be talking about as many as 30 to 35 million by the time Bush leaves office.

New arrivals strive to have children right away.  Why?  Because that child will be an anchor baby.  He/she will be a US citizen!  If we're talking aobut 10,000,000 women of child bearing age, it's not out of the rhelm of possibility to be thinking in terms of ten to twenty million new children.  And that's actually a quite conservative number in reality.

Yeah, lets just debate this issue and keep clapping for a job well done at the top.
