[history]
The killer of anti-immigration politician Pim Fortuyn said Tuesday he "still hadn't decided" whether the slaying was justified, speaking at a hearing to determine whether his 18-year prison sentence should be changed.
Volkert van der Graaf, a 33-year-old animal rights activist, shot Fortuyn dead on May 6, 2002, throwing Dutch elections into chaos and sparking a year of political instability.

I look at the Netherlands, and can't help but wonder how much of it will be US in 20 years.
Sadly, I get the impression a lot of FReepers would say the more, the better.

(Just my opinion, of course. Your mileage may vary. You have the right to be wrong.)

Are you frikken kiddin' me?
Thats not even mildly surprising. Whats more apalling is that if he had said "yes"....the court would probably have taken him at his word that it was.

During several hours of proceedings Tuesday, the judges intensely questioned Van der Graaf about whether he lied to trial judges when he said he committed the crime for the good of Muslim immigrants and other "vulnerable" members of society. Are these the same vulnerable Muslim immigrants who have been responsible for the rash of rapes in a society where rape almost never existed? This, in a society where if you want sex, you can just go window-shopping.

In brief opening statements Tuesday, Van der Graaf's defense lawyer Steijn Franken said Van der Graaf's current sentence is "more than is usual in this sort of case, and we see no reason why." So Franken Steijn (tee hee hee) doesn't think murder in the first is a crime worthy of punishment, does he? What a rotten justice system. I could plan out a murder for months, torture the person to death, and get out in 12??? Culture of death, folks...
