21:58 Powell calls on Israel to pull back from West Bank cities and towns, relinquish control of them to Palestinian Authority
Mr. Powell, what have the PA done to deserve this call from you to Israel? They only killed one person today? How many Israeli deaths will it take for you to take back your words? It took the US 3000 deaths on Sept. 11 to make our army go after the terrorists. It took 54 years for about 3000 deaths of Israelis to occur (which translates to over 10,000 deaths in the US proporation) and we still do not allow Israel to do the same. When will the madness end? Would you let the Taliban take over security in your country?
Powell must not have read UN Resolution 242 either.
Better yet, let's let the Taliban take control and they will stop Al Queda.
At one time I really liked Powell. Over the years I have come to see a completely different side of the man. He is unfit to hold the office of Secretary of State.
Does he also seek to equate collateral damage during our military efforts to be terrorism? Mr. Powell, place your resignation on the desk by morning.

Secretary of State Colin Powell called on Israel on Monday to pull back from cities and towns on the West Bank and relinquish control of them to the Palestinian Authority.
In a round of television interviews after Israel pulled troops out of northern Gaza and agreed to withdraw from the West Bank town of Bethlehem, Powell expressed optimism for Mideast peace prospects and boosted Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas as a worthy leader.
Yeah, "PM" Mazen is a real worthy leader. I am not even going to bother writing up that partial list of all the terrorist and anti-Semitic crimes of terrorist Abu Mazen.
"We hope that with these actions, the Palestinian people will realize that Prime Minister Abbas is producing for them and thereby they will empower him even further," Powell said on CNN's American Morning.
Oh yeah, he is really producing for them alright. Because 80% of them support the destruction of Israel, he is doing them good by giving time to those terrorists (like himself) who are pursuing that goal. The Palestinian "people" will empower him in time, have no doubt about that!
A U.S.-backed peacemaking road map requires the Palestinian Authority to dismantle the terror groups that agreed last weekend to stop attacking Israelis for periods ranging from three to six months.
The problem is, for that to happen the PA would have to dismantle itself. It is a terror group too.
"We ultimately have to reach a point where the capability for terrorism that exists in these organizations is removed," Powell said on NBC's Today show.
So your saying that Hamas can stay put if they stop terrorism?
Powell said for Israel to keep backpedaling from land on which the Palestinians intend to build a state there must be no terror and violence from the areas turned over to the Palestinian Authority.
Israel will keep backpedaling to the sea.
"You can't have people with guns, armed militia, inside of a state," he said. "So if we are going to have a Palestinian state all the weapons, all the force within that state, has to be under the government and these terrorist organizations have to be dismantled."
So the government will be in charged of the armed "militia" (i.e. terrorist groups), and weapons, and "all the force." Wow a real democratic state we have here. So you dismantle the many terrorist groups and unite them under one. How nice.
Powell said the Palestinian Authority had committed itself to make sure no more terror comes from areas it is taking over. He said he hoped Israel would now pull out of Bethlehem "and as confidence and trust are developed, hopefully the other cities and towns in the West Bank."
The PA committed itself to do that? Really? They "committed" themselves to do that during the Oslo Accords. They did not. The US again does not learn from its mistakes.
An unarmed U.S. monitoring group, headed by Assistant Secretary of State John S. Wolf, is working with the two sides on security arrangements. But most of the progress is a result of direct discussions between the two sides, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said.
Asked on ABC's "Good Morning America," if recent developments were encouraging, Powell replied, "I think we should be optimistic. We've seen positive developments over the weekend with the security agreement between Israel and (the) Palestinian Authority to turn over responsibility for the Gaza Strip from Israel to the Palestinian Authority."
1) 21:12 Security forces receive 51 terror warnings Monday evening, just one day after Palestinian factions declare truce. 2) 4 Shooting terrorist attacks. 3)One killed in Terrorist attack. 3) 2 explosive devices thrown at IDF positions.
"They worked very hard on this turnover over the last week or so. I'm glad it came to a successful conclusion and it didn't take them long to executive," he said.
Yeah, it was a real"success"
Meanwhile, on the campaign trail with President Bush, who is soliciting contributions and political support for a race for a second term, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said the president was very optimistic that "we may, as a world community, be able to watch the birth of a new nation."
I KNEW IT HAD TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE ELECTION TRAIL.
"The president is hopeful but he's realistic," Fleischer said. "The Middle East is an area where on a good day they take two steps forward, one step backward."
Bush sent Condoleezza Rice, his national security adviser, to Israel and the West Bank last weekend for talks with Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
She renewed an invitation to Abbas for a meeting with the President, and reports surfaced that the Palestinian leader and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon would meet with Bush again.
But Palestinian and Israeli sources said no date for visits had been considered.
