Business and Labor Leaders Call on President to Halt Recall Effort
Five prominent business and labor leaders called on President Bush to stop the Republican-led effort to recall Democratic Governor Gray Davis. The bipartisan group made the plea in an opinion piece published in Sunday's Los Angeles Times.
The signers included Los Angeles developer and investor Eli Broad, Silicon Valley venture capitalist John Doerr, investment firm chairman Warren Hellman, California Federation of Labor head Art Pulaski and Arthur Rock, one of the founders of Intel.
The Times piece contended that the recall effort threatens to plunge a state already reeling from a gigantic budget deficit even deeper into chaos. "The president should demand an end to the recall effort because the nation cannot afford to have California's economy remain stuck in reverse," it said, in part.
The piece went on to claim that the recall is supported by a "narrow wing" of the Republican president's own party.
President Bush did not mention the recall effort when he was fund-raising in California on Friday. White House spokeswoman Ashley Snee on Sunday said the recall effort is a California matter and the White House is not involved.
Recall supporters must collect 897,158 valid signatures by September 2 to put to a statewide vote whether to remove or retain Davis as governor. As of last week, they had turned in 376,008, according to the California Secretary of State.

What's this? I thought the recall was in trouble according to the "Murk-ury" News.... Guess not....
Seriously, I think ol' Gay Davis is calling in some favors to try to head this thing off. Hopefully this freight train will just run him and his lackeys over.

RINOcrat donors remind the President: They bought Davis fair and square and now they expect him to deliver without any interference from those pesky principled Republicans out there.

Bi-partisan? Yea, 4 jackasses and one rino.I hope they are not holding their collective breaths for an executive order. The Dimwit Davis is going down for the count. Almost lunch time and we have Davis in the toaster and the rest of the Dimwit legislature on the grill. What's for lunch? Grilled pork on toast! Next up? After we eject the moron Daivs we're gonna KNOCKOUT BOXER!

Always love how the media says bi-partisan but when I went to see business leaders that supported Bush in 2000, I couldn't find any of these names unless I missed them when skimming through the list! That's because I'm sure none of these "leaders" openly supported Bush in 2000. They are phonies.

What the hell is Bush supposed to do -- send in storm troopers to haul the petitioners off to Gitmo?

How very reminiscent of "The Letter" defending the Sink Emporer signed by all those important *dignitaries* [read:
losers] during impeachment.
Remember the pols, scholars, authors & actors whose names appeared on [that] whole page plea appearing in USAToday et al?
I sure do.
Anyone sense the 'Rat modus operandi for dealing with opposition politics -- as designed -- being employed, once again??
This has the distinct stench of 'Rat deja vu to me, alright.
Wonder if the nation's up to the task of catching the 'Rats playing their old tricks this time around?
...naaaaawwww {g}

That's a really good point! I remember that letter -- seemed like a threat to the RATs to stick together or else there would be no money!
Always figured she wrote it BTW!

Five prominent business and labor leaders called on President Bush to stop the Republican-led effort to recall Democratic Governor Gray Davis. Must have been big "pay to play" donors of Davis that won't be seeing a refund should Davis be recalled. How did these transparently successful businessmen get to be so?

"I remember that letter..."Sure you do.
Most plugged-in people will rememeber it, Mom; however, the rest (a *majority*?) will fall for this ploy hook, line & sinker.
You watch.
As I said it's a lousy deja vu play -- circa 1997/98 -- all over, again.
"...seemed like a threat to the RATs to stick together or else there would be no money!"
Yup.
But more menacing (to me) it was threat to the country; which, essentially echoed James "Serpent Head" CarvIIIIle's threat made on one of those lame Sunday morning political talk shows, too.
Remember?
I'll paraphrase ol' Serpent Head's words w/ all emphasis mine: "The Republicans come after MY President & we'll burn evrything to the ground!"
That threat was levied against the entire nation, & Mom??
A very good case could be made the Liberal-Socialists made good on that threat, too.
~eh?
"Always figured she wrote it BTW!"
You may very well be correct -- you usually are ;^) -- but let's face it, she had help; because, we know damned well contrary to popular opin, she's not the "World's Smartest Woman."
Far from it.
Now could it be said she's, "The World's Biggest LIAR"???
It might.
...if it weren't for her husband.

George Gorton, a close personal friend of Arnuld, said on Hardball that there is a 60% chance of the Terminator running for governor in the recall election.
