Rest in Peace, hometown girl.(Incidently, her father was, for a time, my grandmother's doctor).

RIP indeed. I was thinking about her yesterday, that she was one of the last, if not the only, stars still living from the classic era of the 1930's. Philadelphia Story comes to mind right away as one of the best, and when watched on its own merits rather than thinking of it as an "old movie" as too many would, it's still sparkling and hilarious.

Picky-picky (I know) but could you correct the spelling in the thread's title? It's Katharine.

I think I'll remember her always by this quote:
I'm a legend because I've survived over a long period of time and still seem to
be master of my fate I'm still paddling the goddamned boat myself.

MSNBC OBIT:
HEPBURN, AN ICON of feminist strength and spirit who brought a chiseled beauty and patrician bearing to such films as The Philadelphia Story and The African Queen, died Sunday at her home in Old Saybrook, Conn., according to the executor of her estate, Cynthia McFadden, and town authorities.
Her publicist, Freya Matston, confirmed her death to NBC affiliate WVIT-TV in Hartford. Officials in Old Saybrook and McFadden said Hepburn died Sunday at 2:50 p.m. She had been in declining health in recent years.
During a 60-year career, she won a record four Academy Awards and was nominated 12 times, which stood as a record until Meryl Streep surpassed that total in 2003. Hepburns Oscars were for Morning Glory, 1933; Guess Whos Coming to Dinner, 1967; A Lion in Winter, 1968; and On Golden Pond, 1981.
Beyond that, her appearance on screen was nothing short of revolutionary in American cinema: that of a strong, refined woman who could hold her own against male leads and was always outspoken. That combination of grace and pluck translated into major marquee status, with audiences over the decades eagerly anticipating her next role.
Despite her success, Hepburn always felt she could have done more.
I could have accomplished three times what Ive accomplished, she once said. I havent realized my full potential. Its disgusting.
But, she said, Lifes whats important. Walking, houses, family. Birth and pain and joy and then death. Actings just waiting for the custard pie. Thats all.
This is a breaking story. Please check back momentarily for more developments.
