SACRAMENTO - It's crunch time for the campaign to recall Gov. Gray Davis.

The historic attempt to oust the Democratic governor less than a year after he was re-elected has just a few weeks left to pull in hundreds of thousands of signatures to force an election this fall, when Davis foes have their best shot to defeat him.

I thought the recall effort was much closer to it's goal. In this article even the spokesperson from the recall seems to be acknowledging the 367,000 number. What gives?

Worry not. This is from the Murkery Newz , after all. The media bias rubber band is wound up supertight and working double overtime to spin old news and old numbers.

Recall supporters have until Sept. 2 to turn in 897,158 valid names needed to put the governor's fate back in the hands of voters.

The goal is 1.2 million, but they only need:

897,158 - 865,000 = 32,158

The article does not make it clear.

There are still hundreds of thousands in the hands of the recall people that haven't been turned in yet, I would presume having worked on a recall in AZ in the '80s.

With time winding down, anti-Davis forces are putting more signature gatherers on the streets for the final push.

But Davis supporters said the official number is a clear sign that anti-Davis forces will fall short of their goal.

What a load of happy horse crap. The effort has until September. The early July date that they're shooting for is a self-imposed deadline to assure a Fall ballot instead of having the recall election combined with the March primary. And they're going to make it. That 'official' number is low because the county registrars haven't verified the hundreds of thousands of signatures on the additional petitions that have been turned in to them.

That's interesting. Who were you recalling, and did you succeed? Have any war stories to tell about the tactics employed by you and your opposition?

Under state law, the state must call a recall election within 80 days after state officials determine there are enough names

And it doesn't help the effort any that the Demonrat Secretary of State is pulling a "slow down" in verifying the petition signatures, claiming a lack of resouces to do that "extra work." However, if it was a petition to raise taxes so that the state could erect a monument to Gray Davis, you can bet that he'd be on it like a duck on a june bug.

The recall will never make it to the ballot. The democRATs control the state government in California. It doesn't matter how many signatures they turn in, the democRATs will find a way to disqualify enough to make sure that they fall under the required minimum. Count on it.

I am sending in 10 signatures today. Do not believe any thing you read in these liberal rags on the recall effort. The numbers here are just the ones turned in. The recall effort has many more signatures hey have not turned into recorders offices.

He isn't going to get away with it. The recall people took a letter to him Friday, saying that he has until close of business Monday to knock this crap off and announce to the world that he'll count continuously, as required in the state law. If he doesn't, they'll file suit Tuesday in a Sacramento court that handles these sorts of election-related disputes in an expedited fashion.

"after state officials determine there are enough names"

That pretty much says it all.

Maybe you're ready to give up, but I'm sure not. This is a struggle worthy of our efforts, and we will prevail. You can count on that.

They say they're "validating" the signatures, which the Secretary of State is going to do anyway.

What Ted Costa (one of the recall heads) is really doing is building a huge direct-mail fundraising list for the future off of all the people who signed the recall petition. Bet on it.

When 2004 rolls around, expect to see a lot of junk mail from his People's Advocate group.

Believe me, I wish you the best of luck. I just have no illusions about how demonRATs work.

First the recall proponents will have to go to court to make the secretary of state "count continuously, as required in the state law." If they win, the secretary of state will appeal. If they win all of the appeals, the secretary of state will assign 3 or 4 flunkies to count the signatures, one by one, on their fingers, but to do it continuously. So it will be back to court.

If the recall proponents win in court how ever many times it takes to get the signatures counted, the secretary of state will then throw out over half the signatures based on every possible objection the demonRATs can dream up. So its off to court again.

If the ballot proponents win at that stage, Grey-out Davis will file suit before his favorite handpicked judge to block the certification. Grey-out will win, of course, because he will pick his judge carefully. So its off to the appeals courts.

Grey-out's term will be up before the litigation is over.

Always remember the Floriduh demonRATs motto: "He who counts the votes wins the election."

Marine layer did not burn off until almost 3pm yesterday. Looks like more of the same today. Really a mild summer so far in Orange County. May not get hot and sticky until the 4th! Update charts please, Norm.

"the secretary of state will assign 3 or 4 flunkies to count the signatures"

The Sec. of State doesn't get the petitions and doesn't have anything to do with the counting, it's done by the County Recorders offices.

Keep your BS in Texas where it belongs.
