Nine Americans were among 11 men charged today with conspiring to train on U.S. soil for a "violent jihad" overseas.
According to an indictment issued by the federal government, the men belong to the Islamic militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, or "Army of the Righteous," which seeks to drive India out of the disputed Kashmir province, Fox News reported.
"These indictments are a stark reminder that terrorist organizations of various allegiances are active in the United States and these groups exploit America's freedom as a weapon to recruit and position themselves on our shores, in our society," U.S. Attorney Paul J. McNulty told reporters.

I've thought for some time that all a determined terrorist with a long view would need to do, to be in a position to do immense damage, would be this:
-look white
-act as a 'mole'
-impersonate a neocon.
That's not a joke. We've got neocons scorning the advice of our professional military leaders, making big policy decisions which in some cases can be turned to the advantage of terrorists (how do you think Project For A New American Century plays in the Middle East?), and the worst part is they're ignoring anyone who isn't playing along- for instance, we've lost military leaders because Mr. Rumsfeld has driven them out with his insistence on having it all his way.
That's a setup for infiltration, for somebody working with terrorists to gain the trust of our leaders simply by parroting back what they want to hear. That's dangerous, because you can fake that. A couple Ann Coulter books, a bit of research here and there, a study of Wolfovitz strategic planning and you're golden: you can impersonate a neocon, and the skepticism isn't there.
That worries me. Building an authority that cannot be questioned is more of a weakness than a strength for exactly that reason- it's like some Hollywood producer, whom nobody dares to say 'no' to. Honest people who disagree will just be shut out completely, but the problem is, people who are up to no good can get in and get real manipulative, sell a whole bill of goods and make it seem like it was the authority's idea. I wonder if the Total Information Awareness stuff has any of this. Wouldn't it be useful to terrorists if America assembled a vast database on its citizens? One good hacker and that database can be turned against its owners.
Maybe I'm worrying too much, but I don't like having the neocons so insulated. If Mr. Rumsfeld had listened to more experienced military strategists, he might not be stuck explaining why the war isn't over now. We're just lucky there weren't actually loads of WMDs after all, the way things have gone. Instead they're killing American soldiers one by one, in guerilla warfare, which is more or less what our professional soldiers said was gonna happen if we did this Rumsfeld's way.
