The downside is that the program material on DVDs can disable your remote - which will make it possible for messy propaganda (e.g., commercials) to be placed before the feature; and you won't be able to fast-forward through it. You know it's coming.

Already here, they don't disable the remote they just ignore certain orders (my DVD player gives me a slashed circle in the corner when it can't do what I'm telling it to). Though the couple I've run into you can use the chapter skip to jump to the next preview or if you're in the last one to get to the menu.
