The American Library Association (ALA), our librarians, are entrusted with the books and reference materials chronicling the world’s development. Basically, if you are a librarian you have seen it all. Unfortunately, the librarians want everyone else to see it all also, even our children

Newsmax is in full sellout mode for the neoconservatives. Only a fool thinks that these filters will not also be used to prevent certain political opinion from being read as well as any porn it may or may not let slip through.

The real answer is the conservative and libertarian response to cease federal subsidies to so-called 'free' public libraries.

In lieu of more conservative judges, these subsidies are about the only stick we have to thwart the ALA's penchant for pushing smut to children.

I'd be a hell of a lot less concerned about library patrons surfing porn than about the fact that librarians choose and purchase books for their collection with a wildly and consistently leftist slant.

There’s not a library in America without a copy of Hillary’s worthless new book.

Most of them probably have many multiple copies. What the hell? It’s not their money anyway.

Oh, puleez! There are 3 libraries from 2 counties we frequent and kids aren't allowed on computers unless the parent is sitting with them. All these computers are out in the open on the ground floor and one library has them smack dab up against the check out desk. Adults have to sign a form outlining the rules of computer use and if I'm not mistaken there was one about not downloading porn. Of course this is in small town America, not California where the article came from.

Yes John, it's really all a conspiracy out to get you and only you.

Seriously, it isn't a good idea to NOT have filters in place to block porn at libraries.
Net Nanny does that job well, if the system has it installed.
And having some techy there to make sure the 16 year old punks aren't cyper smutting will cut down on the lunacy.
End of story.

D. J. Tice wrote a column entitled Library porn is no loss in today's St. Paul Pioneer Press.

?

Chris Ruddy came out against the California recall two days ago. How more anti-grassroots can you be? If you don't understand the players in conservative journalism, its best not to resort to the statist response of dismissing everything as conspiracy theory.

It's best not to label people when you have no idea what they do stand for.
And you, mein freund, are making a stand FOR free access to porn for kids.
It's not a good idea for filters to NOt be in place.

Would you like your children to be at a library and surfing smut sites?

Nice try, though.
You're so interested in labeling everyone that you miss teh point.
That is amusing.
How about being honest for once?

You believe it takes a village to raise a child; I don't.

I'd rather see libraries just close up shop.

Ah, you believe in doing a Fahrenheit 451?

Although too many California librarians are leftists, not all of them are. I'm a California public librarian, and I've seen to it that my library has acquired the latest books by authors such as Dinesh D'Souza, Larry Elder, and Max Boot, as well as The Black Book of Communism.

Really, how did you end up on this site?

You don't think Barnes and Nobles and Amazon have replaced the need for government libraries? You sound a lot like a 1995 Al Gore claiming Republicans want to kill children and the elderly.

Might I suggest to the gentle reader that if they don't want their children encountering anything untoward on the Internet that the parent should SUPERVISE THEIR CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES.

In other words, the parents -- not the state -- needs to step up to the job of being a PARENT.

I am so sick and bloody tired of people claiming that they're doing something "for the children" when it's obvious those schmucks just want someone else to do the job that God assigned them.

Libraries can still be of use.
Why must you label everything and so close-mindedly insist everything MUST be and MUST conform to what you say it must?
Do you do that with God as well?
Do you say that "He cannot possibly go beyond these limits!"?

You amuse me.

You believe in a Fahrenheit 451 society, so you believe in the same thing the Libs do: total control of what people think.
Get back to the point: Children do not need to be exposed to porn. And any responsible adult that sees the protection of a child by blocking porn as a Hillary-esque Village People act is a moron.
Oh, I see you have your hand raised.

People are reading your posts right now and laughing at you.

(Lurkers, you know who you are, send me a freep mail.)

Associating ending a government program with the neo-fascism of Fahrenheit 451 is a left wing tactic, most famously seen in 1995. Only a lazy parent would leave their child alone to play on the Internet in a government building. It is conservative to put responsiblity in the hands of parents, laziness to leave it to the gubmint.

You believe in the nanny-state; I don't.

As to libraries, they are more than welcome to compete for funding from their patrons, but I do not use them, so I don't think I should be force to pay for a service used by the middle class who are too cheap to purchase the books themselves.
