They do this nearly every holiday!!!!
They need to be careful overdoing it. People tend to become complacent easily.

Actually it doesn't surprise me ..Me either. And that's part of the problem. If we're not surprised, you can be certain that the bad guys aren't either...

They have very solid intelligence that a large quantity of explosives are being planned to detonate at a wide variety of locations across the nation that evening. . .

Orange every holiday now is SOP, and CYA.

condition orange... if I'm not mistaken, that means carry
two extra magazines.
on the up side, it's becoming easier to remember. (sort of like changing the smoke alarm batteries when you change to daylight savings)
so, when the wife starts putting up holiday decorations, strap on an extra spare mag, throw the backup riotgun in the trunk, and enjoy the holiday weekend. easy.

Could be the ragheads trying to scare us again, make people not go to celebrations...economy damage.
But what if it's not...

And that's part of the problem. If we're not surprised, you can be certain that the bad guys aren't either... It's a big Holiday and there are many targets that could be hit, so that is why I'm not surprised, but that doesn't mean we should let our guard down.
I know we have fun and make jokes about the color codes, but the fact is ... this color code chart is to remind folks that forget we are still in a war and there are people out there that want to kill us.

With little bottle rockets and salutes now considered a threat to the Homeland, the Feds expect thousands of small terrorist acts in nearly every town in America at once.
To: mhking
Yep. I'm starting to feel like we're listening to the Feds cry 'Wolf!' one more time...I am getting tired of it. At times it seems like they are conditioning us (tinfoil alert! ;-) )
As far as my plans, I'm not going to change them, I'm going to celebrate the 4th of July and let the terrorists and feds be damned. I'm not going to cower in my house like some might do, nor avoid large public crowds/events.

Updated from Drudge:
XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX TUE JUNE 24, 2003 12:17:35 ET XXXXX
FEDS SEE ORANGE FOURTH OF JULY
The Department of Homeland Security will likely raise the nation's terror alert, once again, to high status -- orange -- for the Fourth of July holiday, top government sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
But there is a growing concern within the Bush Administration over the effectiveness of yo-yoing the status of terror alerts.
"It appears [raising the alert] will be the prudent thing to do," one source with direct ties to the decision-making explained from Washington on Tuesday. "But the raising and lowering has to be justified, or we risk the danger of becoming complacent, where a high state of alert carries less urgency."

If at all possible, would you be able to update the lead article with the updated Drudge piece I've posted in #17?
Thanks much! I appreciate it!

I heard on my truck radio a little while ago that they say to expect an attack on the July 4th holiday period in Texas. I am scheduled to go to Indianapolois from New Orleans via Detroit, should I make this trip?
