I agree. Rent this one instead:
Pretty good for 1956. Also, Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964) was way ahead of its time.

Forbidden Planet was INCREDIBLY ahead of its time, although it was actually based on a Shakespeare play, The Tempest. And the characters didn't speak in some sort of pseudo philosophical jabber with wannabee religious overtones.

"Forbidden Planet was INCREDIBLY ahead of its time"I agree. The downside is that I keep expecting Leslie Nielsen to break into an Airplane routine -- "And stop calling me Shirley".
Did you see Robinson Crusoe on Mars?

Oh Yea, Like I'm gonna take movie watching advice from the "internet inventor"?!?!
AFAIC, Al Gores rag on the Matrix Reloaded is a screaming endorsement for me (and I thought the first one ROCKED!).

Looks like a joke to me, but with a serious review :).

Saw a "Zone" last week, vinatge 1963. The Forbidden planet ship, uniforms and plot we recycled in this episode. As with Robbie and all else connected with the film the expense was spread over many movies, TV series, and the like to amortize the expense of Forbidden Planet.
Hey I was 13 when Fobidden Planet came out and it was Spectacular. And that word was really overworked in that era but not for this movie!

They could have shortened the movie by 10 minutes by cutting out the orgy scene. Man, I swear, I was waiting for King Kong to break down the gates to the city.
It may have been more interesting with some more, better Carrie-Anne Moss nekkidness scenes.

Robbie the Robot even made an appearance on "Lost in Space" as an evil robot.

Yeah, Reloaded was highly disappointing. I wish I could erase it from my brain, so as not to taint my enjoyment of the original, which was a gnostic masterpiece.

" Um....so why not just SAY 'chance of an error?'"
Because then it would sound deep.

Using humans for computing power makes a lot more sense.

Did you see Robinson Crusoe on Mars? Yes. The first time at some sort of college event where I cracked everybody up with my running commentary.

Using humans for computing power makes a lot more sense. And using silicon chips makes even MORE sense.

If you really dig Robby then you need to visit this website. It appears that Robby was mouldering in a closet on some sound stage when he was rediscovered, refurbished and is now offered for sale, (a replica) by Barton Enterprises.

Don't knock the wetware. The human brain runs at about a petaflop per second.

Well, if Al Gore (or whoever actually wrote this) disliked the movie that much, it makes me doubly glad I enjoyed it. Can't wait for the next one- LOL! It should be even more fun to watch it knowing how many people who hated this one are going to be paying for a ticket to see the last one.

One more proof that ole al has the brains the size of a peanut. How many days do I have to wait to re-elect W?
