PROVIDING JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR AMERICA'S WORKERS
This week President Bush traveled to New Jersey, Virginia, and Minnesota to discuss actions his Administration is taking to provide job opportunities for America's workers. In his remarks, he urged Congress to pass his personal re- employment account program. These accounts empower the person by focusing money on individuals, not the system. Under his vision up to $3,000 will go to each eligible unemployed worker for job training, child care, transportation, or moving costs. Finding a job within 13 weeks would allow the new worker to keep any balance left in the account as a re-employment bonus.
The President also mentioned actions being taken for job training and education. The Department of Labor's High- Growth Job Training Initiative pairs businesses with education centers to re-train unemployed workers in skills that are in high demand for industries like high-tech manufacturing and health care. The President has also proposed a 45% increase in Pell Grants for 2004, grants that are used by more than 1.8 million community college students to help pay for their education and training.

Medicare
THE PRESIDENT'S FRAMEWORK TO STRENGTHEN & IMPROVE MEDICARE
President Bush met with a bipartisan group of Senators on Wednesday to discuss the Medicare legislation moving through Congress. The President believes America has the world's best health care system because it relies on the innovations of the private sector. He has outlined a framework for Medicare reform that would apply the best practices of the private health care market to Medicare. His goal is a strong, up-to-date Medicare system that relies on innovation and competition, not bureaucratic rules and regulations. The leading Medicare bills in the House and Senate include the following key elements of reform from the President's framework: individual choice, private sector competition, innovation, long-term savings, and a free market approach.

From today's National Review Online, Jay Nordlinger's column...
"Dear Jay: My cousin graduated from West Point in the mid-50s, and chose to serve in the Air Force. (At that time, there was no Air Force Academy and WP grads could pick Army or Air Force.) After flight school, he was assigned to a squadron of F-102s, which was the AF's premiere interceptor with a top speed in excess of mach 2.5 in level flight above 30,00 feet. This was a plum assignment . . . until his squadron mates began to die. The 102 was a monster to fly. Sleek, enormously powerful, and fast at altitude, it was heavy and unstable at low altitude with a high stall speed, and if you found yourself in a spin, it was virtually impossible to recover. It never saw combat but it killed a great many pilots. Those who flew them were held in more than a little awe by their peers, but none envied them. My cousin hated the plane. "George W. Bush flew F-102."
A week or so ago, I was in class with my ultra liberal social studies teacher and she started ranting about how Bush supposedly only cares about Iraq because we can get something out of it- but that we ignore places like Africa that we consider too much trouble. However, I had watched C-Span the night before (people I babysit have satellite :D) And was able to reply that in fact, the President was currently in Uganda, meeting with their President and other government leaders about AIDS, and other civil unrest. It shut the class up and was very nice. White House newsbriefings can do a lot :D
Do not displease this man.
