Ask nicely and ye shall receive. MoveOn.org is now fully "aware" that my street address is 666 and my phone number is (123) 456-7890. And yes, they "accepted" my vote for the Rev. Al!!

Who says you have to put your real one in there though? I didn't.

Uh, I hate to break up the party but did it occur to anyone that they will be cross-referencing your street address and phone number against the white and yellow pages. It's only been available in electronic form forever. Anyone can buy a consumer version. It took me five seconds to find this one on CD:

http://www.cd-rom-directories.com/index.html?target=dept_164.html&lang=en-us

This one contains 104 million residents and businesses and I'm sure there are more advanced ones than this.

They might receive your vote but that doesn't mean it gets counted. Dupes and invalid addresses get thrown out when they run the results against the database. Sorry.

The question is what do they do when they catch you cheating? They have your e-mail... oooooooh. I'll bet they give to the FBI.

My number is unlisted so I don't see how they could do that to mine. And is there a law against lying about your address on an internet poll? I doubt it's something the FBI would bother with. There is no reason for this paranoia over an internet poll. Worst case scenario is they deem your vote invalid and toss it.

I don't know what specific rules Moveon has put in place but I assume they throw out a vote if the number is unlisted. They are not protecting Fort Knox here. This is really just a straw poll to get a sense of which Dem candidate is most favored by the progressive vote. And it's not uncommon to throw out votes that don't meet certain rules - even in a major election. Who could forget the hanging chads in the last presidential election? Sheesh.

My sense is that your wasting your time but if it makes you feel good you go girl... Enjoy Guantanamo Bay!

Ok, you convinced me. I voted for Kucinich. But I did express may "strong support" for Mosely-Braun, Sharpton, Kucinich, and Dean.

In case anyone cares -

MoveOn had to limit voters to people over the age of 18...because this counts under federal rules as an actual primary (or something similar), according to them. A 15 year old liberal blogger found this out the other day when he tried to get a ballot.

So there may indeed be some sort of penalty for faking your info. Not sure if anyone will get caught or followed up on (most likely, it'll just get tossed out), but I figured I'd let you all know.

As for those that think this is just a "straw poll", MoveOn is prepared to give any candidate that gets more than 50% of the vote their full support, including their extensive funding support (in 2000, as I recall, it was close to 2 million dollars).

And unless tens of thousands of you signed up, voting for anyone but Dean, Kucinich, or Kerry is pointless. Those guys were top 3 in the actual straw poll not long ago...no one else has a very good shot at getting to 50%. Odds are, no one will anyway..it was a pretty close race last time.
