From AP:

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Attackers fired a rocket propelled grenade at a U.S. military ambulance, killing one U.S. soldier and injuring two others on Thursday, a military spokesman said.

It was the third reported attack on U.S. personnel or their offices in the last 24 hours.

The ambulance was transporting a wounded U.S. soldier to a medical facility when it was hit on a highway in southwest Baghdad.

The wounded soldier who was being transported was not the one killed, said Capt. John Morgan, a U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad. The casualties were members of an Army medical brigade and their identities were not being released pending notification of relatives.

The wounded were taken to an Army support hospital in southwest Baghdad. It was not immediately clear if the ambulance was traveling as part of a convoy or if fire was returned.

The attack took place at noon Thursday in southwest Baghdad's al-Dora section.

I feel like a broken record but the most prudent and relaistic solution is to declare victory, quickly set up an interim Iraqi government, and begin a fast time table of withdrawal. A "democratic" Iraq is not likely under any circumstances.....but a true policy of Iraq for the Iraqis offers the best hope for mimizing the damage. The longer we stay the worse it will get.

The problem is we went into the post-war Iraq situation trying to be their friend, and appease the entire world since we had the balls to stand up and do what needed to be done. We weren't nearly as, well, strong as we should have been in the beginning.

I also think the fall of Iraq came quicker than even our military guys expected, and they weren't quite ready for that.

The longer we stay the worse it will get.

They just floated the idea of "privatizing" the Iraqi oil resources a few days ago. Gonna take a long time to install a interim government that can give that idea any credibility

This is becoming serious. It seems 1-2 soldiers per day are being picked off. [This is how the Viet Nam quagmire began---politics rather than "win the war".]

Col. Hunt on FoxNews right now is saying:

We seem to have changed the "rules of engagement" and this is allowing pockets of resistence to kill.

Over 1200 CIA/Military have been killed/wounded in the war on terrorism (Afghanistan/Iraq, etc.) since Oct 2002.

We have to do something to stop the military from being picket off one-by-one.
