Gephardt: Davis Recall Bad for GOP

Posted: June 17, 2003 at 6:45 p.m.

SUNNYVALE (BCN) -- Rep. Richard Gephardt, D-Mo., said today that he does not understand how recalling Gov. Gray Davis will help California solve its budget shortfall and begin an economic recovery.

Gephardt, a Democratic candidate for President, spoke to reporters following his address to the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group's Good Government Luncheon in Sunnyvale.

"For the life of me, I don't understand the situation -- how we improve anything by jerking people out of office," Gephardt said.

Gephardt compared the recall to Republican efforts to impeach President Bill Clinton in 1998. He said the Clinton impeachment ultimately cost the Republicans in the 1998 Congressional elections.

"When they carried it too far they got in some real trouble with the American people," Gephardt said.

While President George W. Bush is gaining a lot of media attention this week for his prodigious fundraising in preparation for next year's election, Gephardt believes that campaign cash can not take the place of ideas to solve the nation's problems.

"Big ideas and big choices are more important that big fundraisers," Gephardt said.

The Missouri congressman does not believe any of President Bush's ideas are working.

"I do not believe that George Bush is doing a good job on any front," Gephardt said.

Gephardt is scheduled to travel to Los Angeles later today where he will address the Service Employees International Union on Wednesday.

Either this guy is quite ill or he's a first-rate Clymer.

Either way Gephardt is a disaster.

You missed one other possibility: maybe he's an ill Clymer!

Oh, heaven forbid that a government of the people and by the people should toss out a leader who isn't for the people. Gephardt is mad that the people are actually holding a politician accountable for his actions.

What blasphemy!

Right, Dick. Let's cancel the 2004 presidential election---how can anything be improved by removing our President from office?

Ah, that is the union that represents all of the lower level types in government and wants to represent every MexiFornian they can.

A checklist of goodies for them and Soon-to-be-gone-Gov.Davis follows:
Mexican ID Cards for Illegal Aliens
Drivers Licenses for Illegal Aliens
Instate tuition for Illegal Aliens
Healthcare for Illegal aliens (now called Mexican Nationals by local news as they were getting some nasty feedback on the "undocumented" label)

All they see here are votes and membership money. Wait til they learn that the money from the illegals heads south every payday. (Any investigative reporters ready to film/photograph the local Western Unions to show the lines of people waiting to mail their money - cash - to Mexico?)

I guess you can tell we downloaded our peition filled 'er up and mailed 'er in. We had no "right wing" Conservatives breathing over our shoulders to do it, either, Mr. Gyp-the-taxpayers-hard.

What happens if Davis resigns before the election? Does the election become moot? Does the Lt. Governor take over? Does the Lt. Governor have to run for the "unexpired term?"

These are the fine folks who turned out to protest every campaign visit during the Bush/Cheney 2000 campaign in St. Louis.

Last week, Gephardt called for an "Appolo program" for somesuch nonsense to be completed in 10 years. Yesterday, he called for the end of the "United States of Saudi Arabia."

It's amazing the change in the press here. For a few weeks, it was front page 'Recall Gathering Steam' - 'Recall not IF, but WHEN', and this even from the SF Comical. Now you can tell Bela Pelosi and her cohorts have sent the 'message' out. All the top Dem contenders have announced they won't seek election 'if' there is a recall and the headlines are now saying pretty much that, and also how 'damaging' this recall will be to an 'already beleaguered state' or some such language. What they're banking on is that this state will have to experience a major MIRACLE to elect a Republican, and so if all the Dems back out, we'll be stuck with putting Grayout back in. Then the mud-slinging can begin about the 'waste of money the GOP caused in the (and I'll use the favorite press phrase: 'already financially beleaguered state'). What they don't realize is most Californians do not want to see this DUFUS run this state any farther into the ground. It couldn't get much worse than that what that liar and crook has done with the surplus and his special interests, programs and pork fat staff and perks. BRING ON THE RECALL!!

This is a California thing not to be confused with a GOP thing. Wofford never did anything and went down as one of the shorter term senators. Bush `1 lied about taxes. Bush '2 didn't.

"For the life of me, I don't understand the situation -- how we improve anything by jerking people out of office," Gephardt said.

Well, Dick what can I say,...in the real world, the CEO of a non performing company will be dropped like a bad habit.

Obviously this concept is foreign to you, Sir, since, you have not held any private sector's positions.

Hence your inability to comprehend the situation.

Boy, to think we entrust people like you running states like California, Misissipi makes my skin crawl. Who the hell is electing people like you, 'cause I am not the one.

To The Honorable Richard Gephardt:
OK; no problem here getting some advice from you. I will even take on faith that you sincerely want to help us pubbies maintain a viable two-party system. Great.

In the same spirit of helpfulness, it's now my turn to offer some advice to you and your fellow democratics so we can maintain a healthy two-party system. Here goes:
--Stop your obsession with race. Treat ALL people with the same respect
--Try and understand that socialism is dead. Read up on the concepts of free markets
--Guns are not evil in and of themselves. Evil people may wield them, and that's why the good guys will always need access to them (remember: God made man and woman, but Sam Colt made them equal). And never forget: the great fight those starving Jews put up in the Warsaw ghetto would never have happened without the few Polish rifles and handguns that came into their hands; there would have been no moment in pursuit of liberty for those wretched souls
--Most Americans do not support abortion on demand. Give up your baby-killing craziness
--Read American history about the founding of this great nation and understand that big government was NEVER the goal.

OK--that's all for now, Dick. But, it's a good start for making your party more competitive. And you needn't thank me.

Best,
Pharmboy

I think the press here (NoCal) is also suffering from shock. Let's be honest, they have shilled for this insuferrable idiiot for a long time, allowing him to hide his arrogance and his incredibly hostile personality behind the tailored suits.

Now that he's threatened he's let loose with a barrage that even they can no longer hide - he has had the audacity to yell at the SF Comical's editorial board about keeping the lights on. Two nights ago he called people who signed the petition "losers" and summarized the petion as "sour grapes."

I still wonder if its true that B.S.Burton signed the recall...that would be funny.

I have to agree with Gephardt but for different reasons. If we elect a republican to replace Davis, we will accept responsbility for the financial mess and there is no solution.

I think we should leave Davis in office and let the liberals bankrupt the state. We will then have proof positive, which we can show to the nation, that the socialist policies promoted by the democrats will fail nationally as they have in California.

Wouldn't expect someone who allowed a lying, cheating, treason committing ex president to stay in office to understand a darn thing. He sat there silent while our security was severely undermined by Clinton/Gore.

Mr. Gephardt, I beg your pardon, but the recall is bad for the govenor. Moreover, why would you care a whit if it harms the republicans, you should be so happy.

>> "I agree with you on the Davis thing, its a bad move by the GOP."

It is not really a move by the GOP. It is a move by people in California, Repubs AND Democrats who understand that Davis was and is a total disaster for the state.

Actually I have heard some word that the top GOP are AGAINST it as they would rather campaign against a totally discredited Davis than anyone else.
