"Joe Millionaire" - Fixed? (Possible redundancy)
MSNBC ^ | June 18, 2003 | Jeannette Walls

“Joe Millionaire” star Evan Marriott continues to talk trash about his TV-arranged romance.

Marriott has been doing the talk-show circuit in Canada, where, according to one source, he suggested that the show’s producers urged him to pick “winner” Zora. “He said he wasn’t really attracted to any of the contestants,” according to the source. “He was hot for one of the production people. But the producers wanted Zora.”

And in an interview, the former construction worker had some not entirely kind words for the woman he “chose.” “After the show, we spent two days together,” Marriott told Canada’s National Post. “She had gotten five necklaces, a hope ring, $500,000, and I had chosen her and she still showed me no affection. I was like, ‘Help a brother out!’ Even after the show, she was still uncomfortable and said she still felt weird about the whole thing.”

Sarah, the show’s runner-up, tried to contact Marriott only once, he said, after she posed for Playboy. “She tried inviting me to the party for the magazine,” he said. Marriott declined. “She did that to launch her career. But I’m doing all this for the money.”

"Millionaire" referred to the number of brain cells in poor Evan's head.

I recognize reality shows for what they are, but I'm so sick of seeing the same basic plots refed to us over and over, that I gladly watch them rather than 90% of the sitcoms on the air.

There's one sitcom on that drives my wife and I crazy. It's called, "That 70s Show". A lot of folks may like that thing, but it seems like an insult to my intelligence to watch it. And no, it's not better than the reality shows.

I don't take them seriously. I enjoy them for what they are and haven't regretted it yet, with one exception. I have watched Survivor, the Bachelor, For Love or Money, and one episode of Big Brother.

I have sworn off Big Brother, and decided up front not to watch a number of others.

I like That 70s Show just because I like Red Forman. The rest are just morons.

I've tried watching it, but it grates me something fierce. I'm sure there's probably something I watch that affects others the same way. Thanks for the comment.

My wife likes the Great Race. The events are somewhat contrived, but many times they are related to the country being visited. For instance, the contestants had to locate a raw emerald in an underground Emerald mine in Australia. It appeared to be a working mine.

It's a combination reality and travel show with competition.

"Oh, how I miss Roller Derby!"

Yeah! The Philadelphia Warriors and the New York Bombers: eternal "enemies".

Well good, He gives a lot of folks weird vibes as well. But to be honest she probably doesn't see herself as a whore like he does. He whines she has received all of these "gifts" (that was from the production budget, in which he didn't have to pay for) and he received no "affection", poor baby. "Joe Millionaire" and it's conclusion was no guarantee that he was going to be in a relationship with Zora, and it also didn't guarantee that he was going to definitely receive Zora's "affections" upon completion.

We've watched that as well. It's hard to remember them all. It is nice to see the different places they go, but I don't like the pace of it, always being in a hurry to get here or there.

Do you guys get a little agitated at the conduct of the people? The fighting and the manipulation of each other goes a little over the top for me. Then they always have some homosexual couple that's supposed to be just the cutest... ug.

I do think the show is worth watching.

The girls on the Bachelor shows are way better looking than the girls he had to choose from for some reason, and of better quality in general. I think it's funny all those females on the show were obviously doing it for the money only - otherwise, why give him the cold shoulder afterward? The producers seemed to go out of their way to dig up sleazy gold-diggers for the Joe Millionaire show. I'm just curious if ANY of these shows actually produce a lasting relationship.

Well, considering I ran the biggest and most popular Joe Millionaire forum on the net (even did a deal with Fox for webmastering), I can tell you that to this DAY I'm still getting emails from nutty women who want to marry me. (They think I'm Evan...

They should use a real millionaire but not tell the ladies that he is married. He can ask the "winner" whether she will be his mistress.

The last ABC "The Bachelor" series was really good (didn't hurt that Andrew Firestone is the son of a prominent Republican - and he conducted himself appropriately), but this new "For Love or Money" show on NBC is the worst trash I have ever seen. I think everyone involved is an actor, working from a script.

Or as Red would put it, "dumbasses". But then... they're supposed to be. It's a comedy.

But I understand. When I was younger I didn't like "I Love Lucy" because I thought it was stupid. Today when I watch it in the re-runs, I finally get the humor of it.

Wonder what kind of affection Evan was wanting that Zora didn't want to give? Hmmm.
