Whether it's robbing banks, car chases, speeding or walking against the light, looking over your shoulder is a pi-- poor way to go through life. Just follow the rules. Do the right then and relax. Then respect yourself for being a good example to others.
These issues each impact on others. If we all lived by the golden rule this place would be much more enjoyable.

My heart especially leaps in this situation - I work in a bank.

"They end up in the slammer every single time. What morons.Understatement of the century. Same thing with the stupid car chases in LA, VA, Atlanta (well, Atlanta doesn't really count, you're always in a car chase there) wherever. They always get caught.
But sometimes, innocent victims lose their lives in the process. It happened here in Tampa a few years back. A guy who "accidentally" shot his 2year old killed 2 detectives and a state trooper before taking hostages in a gas station on I-75. The SWAT team went in and he came out dead.
I didn't shed any tears for him, but 3 families did who lost a father, a brother, an uncle or a friend.

ESL was a subsidiary of TRW in Sunnyvale, Ca. It used to stand for Electromagnetic Systems Laboratory. It was a defense contractor.
I was working when someone yelled "Get out of the building. There's a guy with a gun shooting people."
I did what he said, and got outside and into another building. The police wouldn't let us leave for hours. I didn't know where my boyfriend (at that time) was. He also worked in that building, but had gone out for a dentist appointment. He was supposed to be coming back to work at about the same time as the shooting happened.
A guy 4 offices down from me was killed. The other 6 people killed were on the other side of the building. I didn't know anyone, but I recognized faces.
Farley was obsessed with a woman named Laura Black. He had been stalking her for years. A restraining order was going into affect that day, so he got a recreational vehicle and filled it up with ammo and came over and killed people. Laura was shot, but survived.
There's a movie about it staring Brooke Shields as Laura, and Richard Thomas as Farley.
The California stalking laws were made as a result of the incident. Laura had tried for years to have something done about Farley. He had followed her to her gym, softball games, dates, all over the place.
After the shooting, I got to be friends with a lot of the guys that worked in Laura's group. After the shooting, my boyfriend and I broke up, and the guys in Laura's group adopted me. I joined their softball team and went out with them to all sorts of places. Everywhere we went they would talk about how Farley would be waiting for Laura. It was really spooky.

Channel 7 Update, ABC: Traffic closed 135th to 143rd along Route 59, avoid. Another hostage released, one still left...showing cool film of SWAT crawling...bank has only been open one month...bandit armed with rifle, rumor has it also hand grenade. But police chief Bennet expects positive resolution. The man has been calling local news, no luck. And a witness in home across from bank, Erica Brown, said THIS IS INSANE!!!
