June 17, 2003 — Several robbers are reportedly holding about a dozen people hostage at First Illinois Bank in southwest suburban Plainfield. One person has been released. Police were called to the scene at 1 p.m. and roads in the area have been closed. Police have closed off the streets on Rt. 59 between 135th and 143rd streets. SWAT teams have surrounded the building and are moving in.

Several law enforcement agencies are at the scene. The bank is adjacent to a strip mall, which may have been evacuated for security reasons.

Amen! The response was fire quick and strong. Does anyone else's heart go in there mouth when a local channel breaks in with a developing story?

My dear landlady and her daughter live there, glad she's out of town, with the way her luck is running she'd be one of the two hostages.

I was in one that was successful. I worked at ESL when Richard Farley came in and killed 7 people. After that, about 30-40 of our employees were trapped in the building. The SWAT team waited out Farley, and after about 5 hours he came out and no one else was killed.

Okay, it's no where near Joyce Lee Chinese Restaurant.

THAT'S a relief.

Say, there's an idea: Chinese food after Bally's tonight. Gain back some calories I burn. :o)
