Living an authentic life precludes certain career options - among them being the agent of a total state, a commissar.

If you think so, then go for it. No argument.

Agreed.....so, how do we fix it?

Between the two major parties, the ones who will actually propose and push for any fixes to the UN, I think the Democrats will not want to make any fixes that we want. That leaves the GOP, but if Ron Paul gets his way, we are back to square one and we still don't get the fixes we want.

So we can suggest fixes to the other elected Republicans like we do for any other issue. If we are activists, we can hold rallies and marches, we can call C-SPAN when a politician is the guest and get a wide audience, we can write letters to the editor, articles, etc. If enough people do it, it will get their attention.

Good point, cherry_bomb88. Thanks for bringing up the fact that we are several orders of magnitude greater than any DemoRAT argument/discussion.

"I have also argued to get US out of the UN, but I am slowly beginning to think otherwise. So I agree with Consort, to an extent. Personally, I think we should de-fund them (and use the money saved in more constructive ways), insist on full payment of every single stinking parking ticket in NYC, and remain "in" as the snotty voice of conscience for the rest of the world."

The UN is beyond fixing, imho, and America's leaving it would simply formalize its irrelevancy. Any international organization that assigns equal gravitas towards brutal totalitarian regimes and peace-loving democracies is fatally-flawed, as the dictatorships cannot legitimately claim to speak for the citizenry.

After the UN is delegitimized by our abandoning it, we can join with other democracies in creating a League of FRee Nations, thereby spotlighting what makes US and other representative republics unique and special in comparison to the Cubas, the Irans, and the Chinas of the world.

"No argument."

I don't know whether you understood my assertion or not.

But 'no argument' sounds good to me!

Ciao!

"change from within"

...yeh, right.  Can you name one change for the better that has actually taken place in the UN, due to our membership?  And can you name one way in which UN membership has benefitted the United States?

That it's possible to change the UN for the better.
I consider the idea ... naive.  It's a little like saying that we can eliminate crime by joining the mafia and changing it from within.  The UN has been changing - for the worse.  The UN is openly promoting socialism and paganism is the world.  (With US support.)
I ask again - can you name one way in which UN membership has benefitted the United States?  Or can you name one way in which the UN is promoting American values or American style freedom anywhere in the world?

And you call me naive?

I consider the idea ... naive. It's a little like saying that we can eliminate crime by joining the mafia and changing it from within.

Happens all the time. People infiltrate the mafia or a militia, etc, wear a wire, get evidence, turn others against the mob, etc. The intelligence agencies do that stuff, as well.

The UN has been changing - for the worse. The UN is openly promoting socialism and paganism is the world.

Reasons why we need to be on the inside.

(With US support.)

Keep digging your hole.

I ask again - can you name one way in which UN membership has benefitted the United States? Or can you name one way in which the UN is promoting American values or American style freedom anywhere in the world?

The UN, OAS, world capitals, etc are where we fight our diplomatic battles, just like with NATO, joint exercises, etc, are where we may prepare to fight our military battles.

The answers to any questions you have about the UN and the US involvement, good, bad, or otherwise, positive and negative, are available to you, if you are really that interested. Are you really that interested?

Just like Brer Bear and the tar baby.

Are you really that interested?

I lost interest in snipe hunts long ago.  It's easy to find negatives about the UN - the positives seem to be as common as snipes.

Come up with you own examples of change from within. Your examples will work just as well, or even better than mine.

>>Git the US Outta the UN and Git the UN Outta the US!!<<

The UN is also drawn into the U.S. by leftist groups who aren't able to get their way via legitimate legislative means. The UN willingly enters. I think it would be impossible to get them out when Americans are pulling them into all kinds of policy disputes. ( I don't know how effective they are, but the power conferred on them by these leftist groups appalls me--and the UN obviously believes it has a right to get involved).
