The publishers of Hillary Clinton's "Living History" are living large.
Simon & Schuster told today's Wall Street Journal that the New York senator's memoir of her eight years as First Lady is in the black, just one week after it went on sale.
An estimated 600,000 of the initial 1 million copies of the book have already been sold, the paper reported on its Web site. Clinton received an $8 million advance for the book and will begin earning more once sales reach 1.2 million books.
"We always expected this book to be a success, but we never expected this kind of velocity," said Jack Romanos, the president and chief executive of Simon & Schuster.

Golly gee, duh. Ain't that something?
I sure enough hope Simon & Schuster isn't blowing wind in its shareholders' face for the express purpose of hiding losses on the Hitlery debacle.
If S&S stupidly paid Hil $8M and is now trying to salvage its decision by misrepresenting itself......golly, that's kinda like Martha telling the public everything was OK when it wasn't.
Does S&S know there are laws prohibiting saying one thing in public when you know the facts to be otherwise in private?

I gotta wonder how many copies Bubba's been out buyin'. And all the contributors to the Clinton Defense Fund. I can think of maybe one or two folks who would buy this book.

I don't know why it strikes people here at FR as odd that people outside of FR think Hillary is a celebrity and thus buy books written by her-- as they do with other celebrities.

I wonder how much S&S had to ante up to BW and ABC to get BW to do the nicey-interview--in prime time?

I may be crazy but I thought the advance was 2.something million and the total paid for the book was 8 million.

They're hauling books door-to-door from the back of the Clinton LIEbrary.

What's the book's position on the New York Times best-seller list as of this Sunday?

Some article the other day said they were selling 200,000 copies a day...I think Mia T posted that. At 200,000 a day, times 7 days, that would be 1,400,000 copies sold, not 600,000. Somebody lied about something!
To: Liz
I'm hearing on the local radio that the sales aren't anywhere near that number, that's it all a part of the media and publisher's hype. After all, you can't have the 2004 Dem Candidate for Presidency turn in a lowly 28,000 sales after you've given her an $8 Million advance.

The whole deal was for $8M....Hil apparently got $4M on publication. I have no idea of the deal hammered out or when she gets the rest. Maybe conditioned on numbers sold.

Simon and Schuster havn't learned the most important lesson: "It's not the crime; it's the cover-up."
Myself, I think the SEC should send in the auditors.

Christopher Ruddy, Newsmax, is on Fox&Friends now.
Hillary's book backfires.
Upstaged by Monica again (via book).
Glossed over all the "gates" (whitewatergate, travelgate, etc.)
Says Lucienne Goldberg says "no way did Hillary's book sell that many the first day."
Hook of book based on Monica; Hillary would just be a "shadow of her husband" if she were president.
Question is lie that conflicts with Blumenthal's and other account that she really wasn't that angry.

This claim by S&S is a big load of CRAP. The REFRESHED state-by-state statistics that will show up on Amazon.com within the next couple of days will prove this to be the case. The big SCANDAL here is the FRAUD being perpetrated by S&S. Isn't S&S listed on the stock exchange? If so, aren't they liable for fraud charges for INFLATING by a wild amount the sales figures of Hillary's book?
600,000 sales? HAH! My guess is that the TRUE figure is somewhat nearer to 100,000. Actually below 100,000.
