The important statistic with regard to diseases such as SARS is, in my opinion, the number of active cases. WHO and News organizations don't report this stat. However, WHO since April 10th has reported total number of cases, deaths and recoveries from which the number active cases can easily be derived. So, if my Excel® generated chart of that data is correct, SARS will hit "Zero" active cases before the end of June.

I need to learn to proofread. "67-year-old man," that should have been.
To: aristeides
I liked the 676 better...

" 676-year-old man in Toronto. " Reminds me of my grandma, she would say "I'm as old as Moses or was it Methesula."

Re your # 141, From all the charts and such from Fl_engineer and CDC,can we find how long a 67 year old male was on the list?
Also, the 18 that are in critical condition, how long have they been in the hospital?
Are they all on ventilators?
Will they all die when taken off?
At what number of days in hospital do victims usually die?
Is it different for different places, ages, yada, yada?
For SARS to be OVER, wont all victims need to recover or die?
We can probably come up with the number of patients who will die.
Will it be before July 1?
To: aristeides
Do WHO and CDC believe the figures they have for China?
They shouldn't.

It may be possible to set T0 once we hit a lull befor the next outbreak.

The man who died fell sick on May 22, he contracted it the same time as the NC man.

Your posts are excellent! Keep up the good work!

If SARS turns out to be seasonal, I would set time zero at the start of the cold/flu season. The cases we see between now and then may be milder and/or less infectious.

As I recall Judith Anne had what she thought was a flame war with a poster who tends to be rather cutting and sarcastic.
... Maybe she didn't like it.
My sister is a nurse and hates to argue. She thinks it's weird to argue for fun. Your recollection is quite correct and there was no 'maybe' about it. She was EXTREMELY P.O.'ed by the attacks from our (you know who) disruptor. I can't repeat any more of her words, but in my opinion (you know who) was going out of his way to slam her on several sars threads.
I'm hoping Jean Anne is just on vacation. I agree she is and was a great Freeper.

hi BJ, I hope that slew of questions in your post 147 was mostly directed to aristeides and 'all' because my answers would all be pretty much the same... (I dont have access to that kind of information)
Oh, and I liked the peptides and 'man had sars' articles too, thanks.
At what number of days in hospital do victims usually die?
24 days average for recoveries, 36 days average for deaths (hongkong). That holds roughly true in other countries as well.

>>>Ahem....Judith Anne.
oops, I do that a lot. Must have known a Jean Anne in my past.

The patient has retained a lawyer. A hearing will be scheduled in several days to determine whether the quarantine will continue, said two representatives of the district attorney's office. Lawyers, the judge and other court personnel will be garbed to protect them from exposure to the man's illness during the hearing, said Joe Winful, an assistant district attorney.
Oh Joy, the lawyers are in on it now.
