US President George W. Bush, who promised during the 2000 presidential race to start the process of relocating the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as soon as he took office, has postponed the move for another six months.
Citing national security concerns, Bush informed US Secretary of State Colin Powell of the decision in a memo, known as a presidential determination, on Friday.
The delay comes as the administration tries to mediate an end to a spate of violence that began last week with the killing of five Israeli soldiers and ensure Israelis and Palestinians begin implementing the road map or a two-state solution.
"My Administration remains committed to beginning the process of moving our embassy to Jerusalem," the president's statement said.
The Jerusalem Embassy Act, passed by Congress in 1995, obligated the US to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by May 31, 1999. A clause in the law allows the president to invoke a security waiver to delay the move.
Surely you are joking! Clueless on "national sexurity concerns"? Come on. Does losing American lives due to terrorism matter to you or ONLY Israel?
"Afraid the US will offend its so-called Arab Friends and Anti-Israel europe? "
I see you do SOME reading. Getting closer to truth... . See above comment. BTW you partially answered your own question. Hint: Because the U.S. helps and sides with Israel the U.S. is HATED by Arabs and Europe. Get it yet? I personally find your remarks appalling.
"You know, some of the State Dept. maps do not even show Jerusalem as Capital of Israel, or even any capital. Israel is the only country on the map without a capital attributed to it. I am appalled."
Old maps may show what you say but new ones, in the U.S. deny what you say. Seriously, if the U.S. helps Israel, supplies it with financial help and assistance, why in the world would the "state" department not recognize Israel or its capital? Perhaps alittle self serving paranoia on YOUR part?
Terrorism is directed at the US and Israel and will continue to be directed at both great nations no matter what each do. Moving the embassy to Jerusalem and agreeing that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel condemns those terrorists who disagree with that. Or are you saying we should do as the terrorists say?

No. What I meant is, that after the war in Iraq, the US is trying to rebuild its relations in the "friendly" Arab world and Europe.

Fine. If the State Dept. recognizes Israel's capital, as Jerusalem, why is it that it does not have an embassy there? I was looking at current maps in the US embassy I am currently working in. They are dated 2002. They do not show Jerusalem as the capital, or any capital for Israel. It is simply a city. The US Congress passed a resolution recognizing it as capital, yet President and the State Dept. refuse to comply with it. The consulate in Jerusalem is not even reporting to the US Embassy in Jerusalem. It is seperate!

aw, you mean we have to consider the pals "feelings"? Sure you're not on the wrong board? Over here you are perfectly willing to accommodate Iranian students without taking into account the "feelings" of the islamifascist mullahs:
What are you ranting about. Is your hat on to tight to allow you to think? Who says I care about the feelings of the palestinians? You do! All I said is that the cycle of violence is there that has nothing to do with religion, either Islam or your freakish version of Orthodox Judaism.
You are so fricking emotional you are now taking the side of mullahs, the leaders of the hated Muslims against forces of Democracy? How can that be? Must be because you would rather have Iran stay an Islamic hell hole so you could continue to have an excuse to reflexively hate everyone living within its borders. So yes I think you are just a biggot trying to wrap your biggotry in something bigger than your little self.
According to you fighting for liberty and democracy and the freedom to live without the oppression of a dictator is ok for the Iranians and the Chinese, but not for the Jews; so who is the bigot?
You are the biggot! Israel has been a democracy for over fifty years and unless you are saying Sharon is a dictator which I cant follow then you are nutszo, fruitcake, idiot.
As much as you hate Islam, I cant understand why you are against the students in Iran gaining their freedom from oppression. Dont you think if the students throw out the Mullahs, that Hizbollah and some of the terrorist groups would be next out. The students are pro American and Bush would want them to get the terrorists out. So since you are arguing against something that is good for Israel, all I can deduce is you want the Iranians to continue to remain under the yoke of Islam so you can continue to preach hate against all living in that country. Peace. Shit you couldnt live with peace. You wouldnt have anyone else to hate except your repulsive self.
Yes you are, or you wouldn't be comparing them in the same sentence.
Apparently you cant read either. I addressed the palestinians in one sentence and the Jews in another. Thats hardly the same sentence.
You are so amazing. They ought to bottle you and put you in a museum. They certainly shouldnt make you ambassador to the US from Israel. One week in office and you would have the US pulling its embassy out of Israel completely and offering to recognize the PLO. You do nothing but cripple your own side. You are a pathethic loser and I will have nothing to do with such a mean little crippled biggot such as yourself. Have a pork steak on me.
It is not a "cycle of violence." It is a constant attack by terrorists on Israel, followed by sometimes strikes afterwards. The terrorists will continue what they do not matter what Israel does....it wants Israel destroyed.

Oh I hear from another reactor, non reader. The cycle of violence was from a post way back where I said that even if there were no religious differences to bicker over, the Palestinians and Israelis would continue to hate each other because of more than fifty years of violence back and forth. Do you really disagree with that? Why do Israel can do no wrong people constantly look for grievances to raise hell over? I agree with OREally. The US should remove our embassy from all of Israel and allow the Israelis to find someone else to be their best friend. Maybe Chirac?
The majority of Israelis do not hate "Palestinians" or even "Arabs," taking into account all that they have done to them. The hate is of their actions, not as a people/religion. This is different on the other side, where its hate because of religion and as a people. And they are taught that way by their governments, while in Israel they are not.
Not true of Yehuda but then he is an American who is apparently an Israeli "Wannabe." He even opposes the students in Iran because the Mullahs are easier to hate.
LOL! That's a pretty big if. Somehow I don't see you trusting a treaty if you were forced to sign one with Arab Muslims. But Israel being bullied into doing so by "The Quartet" is somehow OK. Give up land for promises of peace from Muslim Jihadists. Anyone who would buy such promises is a moron. "Roadmap" is a huge charade.
You are a Jihadist wannabe. That's your part time occupation here at FR. You come off as someone who wants to inject some truth into the debate but somehow your "truth" is always what will screw Israel.
I was asking a question, not making a statement.
