I have following Iranian news for years and I can confidently say that this is the closest the people of Iran have been to overturning the regime.
I will keep you posted.

Here is a BBC News article updated a few hours ago:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/2991162.stm Tehran sees fifth night of protest
Students say they will continue the demonstrations
Thousands of pro-reform demonstrators have taken to the streets of the Iranian capital Tehran for the fifth successive night.
The protests, which are now reported to have spread to other cities, have been against the conservative clerical establishment and the reformist President, Mohamed Khatami, who is accused of betraying hopes for change.
A White House statement reiterated support for democratic reform in Iran, demanding that the voice of the Iranian people be heard.
Despite the rough treatment of protesters, and warnings from Ayatollah Khamenei, our correspondent says the demonstrators' resolve to continue speaking out against the slow process of reform shows no sign of waning.
Student associations have said they will continue to demonstrate until 9 July, to commemorate the violent attack by hardline groups on students four years ago.

The regime has placed its vital buildings, such as Governments and radio and TV under huge surveillance to avoid a popular take over.
The quote, "the revolution will not be televised", fits prefectly to this situation.

When they roughed up those kids last night, I had a feeling they were disturbing a hornet's nest. Gotta love it when a bad plan falls apart. Nice move Mullahs!
Well, lets just hope this can lead to something meaningful.
Now, if we could just do something about the Senate LOL!

Reading this story made the song "We're not gonna take it" come into my head. A song by Twisted Sister for those who don't know who might have performed it.
Good luck to the Iranians protesting, I hope and pray later we don't see stories of mass murder in the streets of Iran.

Please add me to your Iran ping list??? I've been following this story as closely as possible... those students are so courageous to go head to head with thugs like that!
I emailed most of the large news agencies last night and am astounded that there is still hardly any coverage of something so enormous and important. I'll be praying and thinking of them every minute until this is over...
Freedom to Iran!

This just in...
We are hearing of a MASSIVE protest against the Iranian regime is being organized for Sunday evening in Iran. This is only 10 hours away (Iran is approx 12 hours a head of us in the PST Zone).
We are hearing of entire families, neighborhoods planning on attending. Even those frightened by the regime in the past as planning to join the protest tonight.
It is expected to be HUGE!
