Kinda thought so...
You sure are on top of things.
Are you sure you aren't working as Mel's assistant director?...
Thanks for the great job today.

Thanks, truthandlife. It is a rare day when I ever go to see a movie, but it will be my privilege to watch this one.

I generally will watch anything with Jim Caviezel in it, for reasons that are really not very pure. This might be a little too much for me, I don't want to catch myself thinking, "he sure is a hottie" as the hammer and nails are coming out.

On an average day Caviezel goes through an arduous makeup session that lasts anywhere from 4 to 7 hours, miraculously transforming his clean-shaven face and partly shaved head into a believable image of Jesus. I remember him talking about this on the EWTN interview. It was awful for him, with the heavy make up itching while he was hanging on the cross. Talk about an itch you can't scratch! Sometimes, he had to sleep with it, which it sounded like he hated...constant itching!
Caviezel's says his performance is inspired. "Truthfully, it was never up to me." He humbly continues, "My answer was always that I'm interested in letting God work through me to play this role. I believe the Holy Spirit has been leading me in the right direction and to get away from my own physical flesh and allow the character of Jesus to be played out the way God wants it -- that's all I can do."
He also said in the EWTN interview there wasn't one minute where he was on camera, that he didn't take communion before. There was always a priest on the set, and they said mass daily. I think he was truly led by the Holy Spirit in this role, and we will witness it soon.
Were there any other horror stories or was that the worst of his ordeal? "I was spit on, beaten, and I carried my cross for days over and over the same road; it was brutal."
He mentioned that they "missed" a couple of times during the scourging scene. OUCH!!
Although Gibson feels apologetic for what Caviezel had to go through, ("I know Jim suffered, he separated his left shoulder and was in a lot of pain and discomfort, but he was very patient during the whole thing")
...and just where was the physical therapist on the set? Hmmmm??? /shameless plug

....btw, you're right, A_p_l...he is a hottie! You won't be the only one trying to forget that during the crucifixion ;o)
(...but I will still always be faithful to Mel, in case you're wondering about that last comment, NY! LOL)

whoops! How'd that happen? the rough draft must've slipped out before the final version!
To: truthandlife
The movie should be awesome but it should really have subtitles IMHO.

The movie should be awesome but it should really have subtitles IMHO. What for?
Up until the 1970's, nobody knew what priests said during Mass either.

It does seem likely that the dvd would have a subtitled version. Or even that the movie would have a booklet with translations. Guess what!?
I already have a 'booklet' with the words translated into my native language, and I'll just bet that you do as well.
Do you speak Japanese? There is a 'booklet' for you.
Chinese: the same...
Swahli? Urdu? Spanish?
Yes, ALL of these and a hundred plus other languages each have a 'little booklet' to let you know, more or less EXACTLY, the words that are spoken in this film........

I STILL react with extreme sorrow when I see 'Jesus of Nazareth', an almost thirty-year-old movie. It wasn't even realistic in parts with an Italian-accented child Jesus and an English-accented Robert Powell - but it was powerful. I will make a prediction now and don't even give a damn what the naysayers are already saying, this will be a blockbuster movie, maybe the most attended of all time. People will come away drained and some will cry for weeks over their own lost faith. God bless (he has) Mel Gibson for giving him the courage to make this movie. It is time.

I read Anne Emmerich's "Dolorous Passion" about 18 years ago. I thought at the time that if anyone were to make a movie on just what was portayed in the book, if they did it well, it would be breathtaking.
I heard rumors that Mel was thinking of doing a movie based on the passion, and I secretly hoped that some priest friend would steer him in the direction of Emmerich's book. Imagine my surprise.
To say I can't wait for this movie would be an understatement. I am aching for it. I know the effect just reading Emmerich's book had on me. To see it in living color will be indescribable.

Don't get your hopes up. This will be a small film. It won't be a blockbuster.
But that's not what is important. I don't think that should be the measure of success.
'Jesus of Nazareth' is my favorite movie about Jesus, for all that the whole film looks like an Italian Renaissance painting. The cast did an excellent job. I heard Zeferelli made a vow to God, while he was very ill due to a sickness or accident, that he would make a movie about Jesus if God would let him live.
