Ellis County man who found thousands gets the cash
06/10/2003
Associated Press
WAXAHACHIE, Texas An Ellis County man has received more than $6,000 after finding cash along Interstate 35 and then turning it over to authorities.
The man found $6,900, which had apparently been run over a few times, two months ago as he was driving along I-35 near Waxahachie, said county spokeswoman Diana Buckley.
He gave the money to the Department of Public Safety, which then turned it over to Ellis County, Buckley said.
The county held the money for 30 days, then advertised it but no claims were filed. The man received the money Monday, minus the cost of advertising. The total came to about $6,800.
The source of the money remains a mystery.

I lived in Waxahachie up until three years ago. Beautiful town full of restored Victorian houses, one of which I owned and restored myself. There is only a slight chance this guy is a Democrat. There are a few, but not that many. In 1992, Clinton came in a distant third there, behind Bush and Perot. The only reason Martin Frost was our "representative" was because he was allowed to draw his own gerrymandered district, which looks like a police outline of a centipede murdered with a steamroller.

There was a case in Garland, TX where a couple found a grocery bag w/
several hundred thousand $$$ in it, and turned it over to the gendarmes.
The police found traces of drugs on it, and refused to give the money to the couple after the notification period expired. Dunno if they ever got the $$$ or not.

They could probably find "traces" of drugs on just about any bill picked at random. Sounds like an excuse to me.
